Author Topic: Is this normal or am I literally insane?  (Read 1676 times)

I've always thought things looked like they're moving in the dark. Not only that, but they also change shape.

Example: A few nights ago I was laying(lying?) on the sofa at night and there was a box on the shelf. If I looked straight at it, it looked like it was fidgeting/jerking around and extremely blurry. If I looked away from it, it'd change shape and it looked like a person. The "person" walked back and forth on the shelf and after a few seconds reappeared where the real box was. It was still very blurry and somewhat distorted/shaky but it did resemble a person and it did move around.

Is this a thing that everyone has or is this some sort of weird thing only I have? I'm actually kind of afraid to post this in case it's something perfectly normal and I'll look like an idiot, but it just doesn't seem right to me. I'm sorry for wasting your time if this is a normal, everyday(night) thing. And no I am not dreaming when this happens, I'm completely awake and conscious. I don't think it's sleep paralysis because I can move freely and the things are so blurry/vague, but I could be wrong.

Happens to me at night too. Things will look like they're moving or wiggling when it's just your eyes being strained in the darkness.

You're becoming mentally insane.
I recommend seeing a doctor.

Clearly his house is a SCP that animates any inanimate objects inside it.

On a side note that does seem a little bit insane. I recommend asking your parents or doctors or whatever because I'm pretty mental and I don't have that.

Same.

If you look at a picture in the dark the mouth will start moving.

But the box thing is loving creepy but don't worry its just you're mind loving with you.

Also if you stare at your hand long enough in the dark it will turn invisible!

...OH WAIT A MINUTE

This is actually very common. It's the way the light is bouncing off the object, causing a small amount of light to bounce back into your retina, making it seem as if it has shape shifted or moved. It's your eyes playing tricks on you.

okay so I'm probably not crazy. yay

I'll leave the thread open for a few more minutes though in case anyone has anything else to say

I kinda get this too.

When in bed in the dark, I often see what I think is some kind of bug on the floor or wall, which looks like it's actually moving. Turn on the lights, and it turns out it's just either a dust ball or a scratch of paint on the wall. There's a low chance of these things actually turning out to be bugs.

Actually it's the brain trying to compensate for the lack of 'information' from the eyes.

We don't want to be alone at night.
:C

I get this too except if I look at an object I can see in the dark for a long period of time without blinking, it begins to slowly fade away into the darkness and turn black. If I blink it goes back to normal.

Are you guys serious?  He didn't imagine the box like, getting bigger, or getting wider, or anything minor like that.  He imagined that it became a person and walked back and forth across his shelf.

I'd recommend seeing a doctor or psychiatrist.
