Author Topic: That Falling Box Game - v0.7  (Read 16040 times)

also I could potentially help with the master server thing

this is sort of my project so i'd prefer to do everything on my own for now

so guys, i have this idea

instead of the boring main menu we have now, it could be like a main menu that actually uses the game's mechanics. instead of keying through a bunch of options, you would have a bunch of bigger blocks where the game would spawn you a block to pick up and throw at them, and hitting the bigger blocks with the game's block would put you into the game or the settings menu

though i'd have to find a way to arrange the bigger option blocks so that you wouldn't accidentally hit one when you meant to hit the other, or just find another approach to do this altogether.

or the menu could be a bunch of holes in the floor, where you just jump your way into one of them to select an option.

asdfghjkl
you could just have him help, then test what he's done; if it's good you can use it and have more time to work on other stuff, if you don't like it you don't have to use it.

oh god im sooo badddd

I die 1000 times

Don't go with the fancy main menu.

However enlist help in creating networking so we can multiplayer instead of own bots erryday.

Also you should add picking up blocks under you, but it takes a econd to pick up and can be aborted halfway if you let go z. Considering the hectic pace of the game it would be balanced.

i'm not doing underhanding blocks

period

probably won't happen unless i get a good machine for hosting.

implying you need a good machine for hosting a master server

implying a master server based server system  is a good idea

i'm not using this piece of stuff for hosting a dedicated server haha

nah, i was thinking more along the lines of one server that a lot of people connect to and play on

though if this game were to get popular, it'd get pretty hectic

not that that's a bad thing though :3

i'm not using this piece of stuff for hosting a dedicated server

how can it not support having a list of IP addresses with some information such as server names and then modify/transmit information when requested to do so via something such as a HTTP request

it's not so much that it's stuffty, but the fact that i constantly shut it down/put it to sleep, and when it's off or sleeping, my internet is off, and when my internet is off, people can't connect.

it wouldn't even be 24/7, probably like 12/7

If I were developing a game, making it compatible with Windows wouldn't be a very high priority for me at all.
I would assume so, and that's understandable

You know you could make a really big battlefield and have 2 teams on either end, when you pick up blocks you can place them down to get to places.

Also blocks are pre-placed and do not fall from the sky (That could be an block strike sort of thing)

Just an idea.

A team-based game mode seems like a good possibility. Pre-placed blocks probably not, due to the fact that the game's mechanics are based around a randomly generated environment.
How do I play?
I may or may not include a tutorial in the next version, for now, just stand next to a block (with your little dot facing it) and hold Z, then release Z when you want to toss a block.
