Honestly, I've been having the hardest time. Any other tips I should know? I generally am able to find coal and set up a small base underground before I get killed.

Had some armor, some arrows and a bow.

Feast starts in 4 minutes.

First game I played I hid out in a dense forest's trees and killed anyone who came through and made it to 2nd place before getting ambushed.

I was using Fisherman at first but then I understood how easy it is to make a fishing rod, lol.

with scout you have 2 speed potions, so you can use one to get away fast right when you spawn, and the other for a dashing escape or whatever

Except when the spawns are all in super dense jungle tool areas.
