marching is like walking in snow or in bush, you lift your leg up higher. the only difference is that if you forget up while walking in bush or snow is that if you don't march with perfect form you have a face full of brambles or ice.

well i mean
marching is just walking with more purpose, its not like its some fancy form of jogging
Err...

There is actually a form to marching. Not really hard but you'll have to put your legs in the air very high.

And since when do people find playing a wind instrument easy, especially when marching with one?

Wrong.

oh, so marching is like walking?

In the sense that you move with your feet.

But no, there is a form to it. You can quit being a jackass when you feel like it and actually read.

elaborate on this form there is to marching, opposed to just having your back straight and your knees bent.

Lift knee, higher than waist high.

I didn't say it was hard or some stuff, but If you think it's super easy, you might as well call any form of running in track a simple work-out.

And for that instance, one could dumb down track to that "instinctive thing you do before you die."

I think we should stop arguing about weather Marching Band is considered a sport. Its obvious no one is changing anyones mind. The OP was just asking our opinions and we gave it to him.

Fact of the matter is, most people who think it shouldn't be a sport pretend like they could do it without any form of training.

100% yes. I did high school marching band when I was in 8th grade. Holy stuff you do alot of physical activity. Especially where I live, we had to train in August, and I live in the Desert. It get's to 120 F here.

The marching band I'm in. It's hard stuff to memorize all those points.
About 190 dots.

marching band is a performance, not a sport
god damn people
performers are not athletes, what they do requires specific skills that may or may not be physically demanding, but they are not playing a sport

the pole dancers sucked wtf
the xylophone players and stuff were really cool though

No, it's not a sport.  Yes, it's demanding and it's competitive.  But you're not marching and blasting music into each other's faces as opposed to football, basketball, or soccer where there is direct contact involved.  It's not a sport on account of the fact that you don't directly contact opposing "players".  But it's just not a sport as we see "sports" in comparison to football, soccer, etc.

Before you fire off going "omgf u retad", I did say that YES, it is PHYSICALLY DEMANDING.  My school's marching band is pretty great and they're very competitive, and lots of guys in it tell me that it's no walk in the park.
Bowling doesn't involve direct contact and it can still be considered a sport.  Also there is diving and pole vaulting.

It also needs excitement.
Marching bands don't have much exictement.
clearly you've never been in a marching band
But imo its just a bunch of nerds on a field.
and football is just a bunch of jocks on a field, right?

yes, they are playing a sport. what is your point again?

pole vaulting and diving are sports because there's a win condition, as well as the fact that it's almost all based on physical skill. only people who bowl consider bowling a sport, same with darts, poker, and pool.
