Author Topic: Whats the difference from an account perma-ban and a IP perma-ban?  (Read 1147 times)

Okay this is a very long story but it's confusing because I am not sure if this is right.
Bot was my old account on the forums.

Bot was perma-banned because of rule #5
5. Do not plea for sympathy

I had posted a leaving topic which I didn't even bother to check and left.

I left Blockland for about 7 months and when I finally returned I wasn't banned from my account.
I am guessing that he didn't ban my account because I had actually left.
(Remember this happened around 2010-2011)

A couple of days after my return I was perma-banned.
I was a bit confused because I thought I would have already been banned but I wasn't.
It was literally 2 days after I had returned. I searched for the topic and I had no luck, the topic was deleted as well.

After about a year of just being bored, I decided to browse and check on my old account, Bot.
(At the time you didn't need a key registered to be able to post)

I saw that Bot didn't have a key and it was saying if I would like to register a key for it.
I was surprised and I thought if I registered a key for the banned account that it would unban it or something.
I had even read that old topic about "IP bans lifted" so I thought if I just registered a new key it would be unbanned.
Well, it didn't. I had wasted a key and my own time. I got frustrated.

I emailed Badspot about a month ago about my old account: Bot
I told him that I honestly learned my lesson and it was months ago and if he could unban the account.
He told me that IP bans were lifted. I replied saying that apparently I was still banned.
I guess Badspot got confused because he started telling some different things to do like restart my browser or to delete my cookies from it and stuff.
None of this stuff worked and he eventually asked what the account was. I told him it was Bot and he said that the account was not IP banned but instead account banned. I have no idea what the difference is, does it mean that there is literally no way for it to be unbanned? Even after I registered a new key?

It means the forum account itself is banned, not the IP it was registered from.

So even with a newly registered key it can't be unbanned?

So even with a newly registered key it can't be unbanned?
As far as I understand, yes. Unless badspot unbans it.

Damn :/

I dislike IP bans, what about the people that have to access the forums through public wi-fi spots?

I think the difference between account bans and IP bans is that the former just bans the account itself, so you can go and make a new account using the same IP, while IP bans ban you from making accounts entirely.

So even with a newly registered key it can't be unbanned?
The problem is that he bans the account from the forums. He doesn't actually ban just the key. Have you explained to Badspot that you didn't actually enter the key until after you were banned?

No I didn't tell him.

So your name is Nobot because you no longer have your Bot account?

Yes. Lol wow you finally got it?  :cookieMonster:

Every computer has an ip.
But every computer has a different ip.
So, an ip-ban means that your banned from using your account on the computer your on when you got banned.
A perma-ban means that you are permanetly banned, but you can get a new account and you can start all over again.

Nope
Yes, they do.
You can ask someone from the geek squad or something about it.
