Author Topic: Dear Americans of the forum, teach us Europeans your language  (Read 1583 times)

So I think most of us Europeans here speak fluent English (or American English) save Cubelands but there are these errors that keep returning.
So can any grammar national socialist kind enough please explain to me (or us) the use of the following:
Then - Than
Them - Theim < Not a word
Your - You're

I know there are some handicapped ones in there that are completely obvious but I'd like to share it with people here that don't think they are. I might add more if I could think up more.

This should be full of enthusiastic grammar national socialists.

Your - possessive
You're - Contraction of "you" and "are"

Then is used when talking about order. I go to school and then I go home.
Than is comparing things. That banana is bigger than that one.

Your is talking about possession. Your dog is nice.
You're is a conjunction for YOU ARE You're nice.

and there is also the "your" as a noun.

Then is used to show that something happened in the past, IE: "He then punched his face off"
Or talking about order, as Messes said.
Than is used to make comparisons in some cases, IE: "Greater than"
Them is a pronoun used to refer to a group of people, of which you are not a part of, IE: "Take it from them"
Their (I assume you mean "their") is a possessive pronoun used to show that another group possesses something IE: "Their crap"
Your is a possessive pronoun, used to show that one person owns something, IE: "Your crap"
You're is the conjunction of "You are" and generally used in the same context, IE: "You're stupid"

Some of this info might be wrong.

And then I realized that TheArmyGuy's face was more homoloveual than two men having love in a Prius.

"You're gay" I told TheArmyGuy. "Yes, put your snake in my butt" TheArmyGuy replied softly.

I saw this coming from the second the right-hand column said last post: Uncle Bengs

Okay! :D

Your is used to mean that somebody owns something.
Example: Your item = the item belongs to somebody.

You're is used to explain the state and things like that of someone.
Example: You're the pizza delivery boy.

So basically, "your" is a word that adds possession to something, while "you're" is a word that you use to explain someone and stuff.

And for "then" and "than":

"Than" is used for comparisons between things.
Example: 9 is larger than 8.

"Then" is used for order.
Example: I recommend brushing your teeth and then drinking orange juice.

then - pertaining to chronology "I went to the store then I went to the post office.
than - comparing two things "My dog is better than your dog.

Your dog is silly.
You're silly.
Then he became a silly person.
That silly guy raped them.
"Okay, so the silly guy's left us stranded here and is flying away in the low-on-fuel helicopter and we have more fuel. So then.. What'll happen to him? Idiot..."
