not sure if tekkit works with towny, but we definitely are considering doing a tekkit server.

Too busy with tekkit right now to stick to Minecraft more-or-less-standard.

I've started to lose interest, however after coming back from another week of camp I am motivated. I'm thinking of just running tekkit with some sort of world protect until I get the hang of it and then intergrating it with Towny.

Tekkit DOES work with towny, or at least Techworld (http://minecraft-techworld.com/) are managing it.

They also have a whitelist - I'm wondering if they had to have that because Tekkit introduces new ways to grief that Towny doesn't protect.
