The whole thing started because somehow amnesia got brought up and I was like, "man what a ripoff" and "I sort of suspect that maybe the devs didn't even want it to be scary and people got the wrong impression." So he bought me quantum conundrum if I promised to play the entire game.
Now I redact the idea that the devs didn't want it to be scary, I can see now that they did. It took way, way too long to get to any intimidating parts though. I was practically in tears laughing in the first area with water. I thought that my game was broken and the monster had failed to load properly, and Dan said, "no that's the invisible water monster!" I immediately cracked up because I thought he was loving with me. Then I laughed harder when they tried to convince me it was true and I was actually supposed to be scared of it because it was invisible. Invisible Water Monster turned into a meme for the rest of the show.
So far the 3 scariest things in the game were, and yes I'm being completely serious:
3. Prying open a door with a crowbar, I pull it halfway then release the crowbar, the thing keeps going and the door breaks open. I was a little spooked by the ghost crowbar, even if it was ultimately only helpful. That thing coulda put my eye out.
2. If I solve a puzzle but I don't expect it to be a "solved puzzle", there's a whisper sound and the screen instantly flashes white. This is a little startling.
1. About to go afk in what I thought was a safe area, never been really attacked by a standard monster before, talking on stream and hear this annoying buzzing, it finlly gets my attention enough that I turn around, MONSTER TRYING TO EAT FACE NOM NOM NOM. Only time I got a little bit of adrenaline. That's only going to work once though since I now know what the "monster trying to eat your face" sound means.
I've stopped for sleep but we'll start again 17 hours from the time of this post. (6 PM pacific)
