I can help you

if you give me your address...

If you plan on actually playing games I'd invest a little more into the graphics card.

But will it fit the motherboard?
The Sandy Bridge i5 fits in Socket 1155, which is the one used in the motherboard you first chose.

I have chosen a processor that fits this current motherboard.

All I really plan on doing with this is hosting minecraft.

I'm going to assume you're using a linux OS for the server.
BRB setting a build up.

Set up a build, if there's something wrong with the build let me know:

seeing as how you are into intel,
i suggest http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121552
its 200 bucks mobo though. the cheapest LGA2011 one there is.

however it will allow you to upgrade the rest of the comp for like 8 years.
i dont think the mobo is a place to budget, you want it to age well.

I don't have the budget for that.

Yet. I plan on upgrading this computer. So I'm trying to start out cheap, but decent.

My ultimate goal is to keep the price below 500. However, I understand if it's a little over.

Go for my computer build:

You should have the budget for that.
A 6750 in case if you want to do anything else.
An I3 will do your minecraft hosting just fine, everything is good in there.
Install a server linux OS for now until you want to pay for and install windows.

I don't have the budget for that.

well the thing is, amds new chipset came last year, now intels new chipset is out.
pci3.0 is out as well.

you should want a motherboard that can use all the new stuff. even if you are using older generation parts on it for now, can easily upgrade them later.
starting with an old gen motherboard is already inviting many problems for how your comp will age. as you will hit brick walls when upgrading in a year or 2

Like I said, I will always be able to upgrade it later.

I like Mac OS X.

I much rather have intel.
So you'd rather go with a 3 or so generation ago Intel processor on an old platform even though this build is faster?
OK, whatever. I was just suggesting one of the best builds you can get for $500, not my problem if you don't accept advice.
