Well dear, there's a reason they're the biggest company in the world! I have a Windows desktop, I use Linux servers, Apple products are just the best by a mile.

Wasn't a waste and £1000 is an acceptable amount for a computer for me, I'm not living off my mum's pay cheque lol.

That reason doesn't have to be a very nice one.

why you calling boys dear. thats gay boy.

My god you guys whine over a computer you're not even receiving, it's the OP's parents choice what computer they get. if it doesn't effect you why bother posting "WINDOWS IS BETTER" "MAC SUCKS".

"better build quality"

macs = OK RAM
macs = Mediocre graphics card
macs = somewhat good HDD

you can upgrade a dell to a mega computer.
dell = stuffty plastic

macs also use cheap foxconn (or whatever its called) motherboards.
Dell uses Foxconn motherboards too
of course if you build your own computer you can get whatever quality of motherboard you want

Windows can be just as secure and stable as Mac OS X provided that the user isn't an ass-licking moron.  OS X is catered to those kinds of people and absolutely idiot-proof their system with lots of things in order to ensure that the customer believes "Macs don't get viruses" or "Macs never break".
We're talking about OPs mom here. She might be the kind of person who needs a simple computer.

Mac OS X doesn't use too much idiot proofing, it uses the Unix architecture to be a really stable system. Windows 7 is a great OS, but Mac OS X will always be more stable because of it's better architecture.

If you want to see idiot proofing, take a look at all the notifications Microsoft Security Center shoves in your face.

The "Appletard" is actually correct, Apple overall is a big company and successful, but most of their success comes from the Mobile market.

I love these guys who say that I'm saying Apple isn't successful, it's like they have no ability to read.

Linux is Unix-like too, why not just use that?

Apple is successful because people like 'nice things' I mean they are aesthetically brilliant. However, my argument is that you get more bang for your buck with a PC. not to mention the fact that you can upgrade what you want instead of having to shell out on a whole new unit.

Oh and Apple is the biggest company in the world.

Love a good Mac VS PC debate.

Define biggest, because they certainly are not revenue wise, or number of employees.

I also like these kind of debates

EDIT: in-fact, revenue-wise apple are 43rd.

The fact is though, unless you're into computers (the majority of people in the world aren't), you don't know how to/don't care about upgrading your computer. With a Mac you can just run it for years as they don't jam up and slow down like Windows loves doing over a few years, then replace the whole thing after a long run.

By market capitalisation - the most "popular" way to rank companies by size.

I like this, to sum up your post: "Macs, for people who don't have a clue"  :cookieMonster:
