I get like 1.7 MB on most downloads. Around 1MB Upload, 60 or so ping. Road Runner.

I'm lucky to get 500 KB.

Atleast it isn't as bad as mine was, 2 years ago, it was so slow, I couldnt even connect to servers, 1Mb/s takes its toll :c
Are you loving kidding me? I get 150kb/s when downloading Steam games at least. Connecting to servers is completely fine for me.

your net speed isnt the only thing determining your downloads.

every different website, every different game, every differnt peer you connect to on a network;
they all have different internet speeds that affect your download. and they all have traffic that affects their bandwidth at any certain time.
and most EVERY website and game limits per user how much bandwidth they are even allowed to use.

say i have a 20mbit connection. thats equal to a max download rate for a single file, at 2.5mb per second.
or 2.5mb total for multiple files.

this does not mean you can just come to blockland.us and download the game at 2.5mb.
if everyone had no limits, the website would just go down.

My lowest is 32, highest is 731.

What really disappoints me is the amount of ~500KB/s downloads I get because site owners don't use optimal settings.

you gotta convert it yourself.

a rate of send can still be shown as an amount.
and vice versa

ISPs cant tell you your max speed, because thats not a legit way for them to explain the contract, seeing as they offer bandwidth/rate of transfer

a smart person can do the math himself to determine how much he can send or receive

1 bit = 8 bytes

i dont know why we still measure bandwidth in bits, as we are dealing with amounts much larger then we were in the 70s.
im sure there is a good reason.

we measure in megabits
with those units the values are fine

most connections are somewhere around 10-20 down, 1-2 up
some are around things such as 50/20, 50/50, 100/100
there are some extreme ones like 4000/100 that only nobody can afford though
