Author Topic: Is Evolution a Scientific Law, Theory, or both?  (Read 7449 times)

It's a theory because you can't completely prove it imo
That's not what a theory is.

Jesus loving christ you guys are dumb.

Theories aren't things that have so little evidence that they aren't a law.

But they're different from laws.

That's not what a theory is.

Jesus loving christ you guys are dumb.
Who's really the dumb one, the one who doesn't completely understand what a theory is, or the one who feels the need to swear violently at the person who didn't know?
Hint: It's you because being a smart human also requires to know when to be nice and such, social intelligence. Cut it with unneeded swears and instead of calling me dumb help educate my idiot brain.

That's not what a theory is.

Jesus loving christ you guys are dumb.

You've been a real richard lately. Rather than curse profusely and call Freeze dumb, you can re-state what a theory is and not only enlighten him but raise his and other's opinions of you. It's a win-win.

It is and always will be a theory.

For something to be a law it has to be observable, I believe.

a hypothesis is an educated guess.
a theory is when you have the support of data
a fact is when you can use that data to reproduce the theory at will

gravity is a theory because we simply cant build a planet and test it in controlled studies

Gravity is a law.

See: Isaac Newton

Gravity is a law.

See: Isaac Newton

Gravity is a theory comprised of the laws of movement if I recall correctly.

by this logic evolution is a theory because there ARE some facts backing it up but at the same time we can't prove it

The year I had biology in higschool we did a section on evolution. The teacher started by prefacing it with i'm not saying it's the truth but its what has to be taught. I was so loving mad

Yeah its a theory, but  a theory isn't what you think

Gravity is a law.

See: Isaac Newton

Gravity is  a theory

Bottom of the page, "Theories of gravitation"
Theories of why gravity exist, not that it does exist.

Newton's Law can accurately predict all gravity in the universe except for subatomic particles. I think there are some newer ones now, but Newton's is still very popular in simple physics.

Gravity is a law.

Gravity is a theory. You're thinking of the laws of motion.

Evolution is a theory.

Exactly. We have plenty of evidence supporting it, but can not reproduce it at will.
