Author Topic: should i start using metric units instead of imperial  (Read 2831 times)

everyone except American idiots will understand you just fine, considering that's what everyone else uses
bad comparison
Hey, man. Any engineer wanna-be knows how to convert metric to imperial.
Like I do. I will use either unit accordingly. None is more stupid than the other.

the customary is very stupid and inefficient

yeah, you still can't compare measurement systems to languages
there are two major systems
the one the US uses, and the one the rest of the world uses
but almost every country has its own language (although it may not be commonly spoken anymore)
I assumed OP lives in the United States, so he/she should use the system that is widely used in the country.  I'm not saying anything about the systems of measurement and which one that should be used.  As stated, OP wants to use the metric system, for he/she thinks the imperial system is 'annoying', so unless he/she wants to start a movement on switching the system set in  the U.S., I do not see an efficiency in using a different system of measurement in daily life simply for preference.  Perhaps OP could use it in situations where he/she has a choice?

people in the US generally use the imperial more. but we gotta know both because everything we own comes from overseas.

yeah, he should use the customary system whenever he's using it with other people who do
I was simply arguing that your comparison was bad

Okay

I use a mixture of both

I use a mixture of both
"how far apart do you guys live?"
"ten kilomiles"

use whatever your country uses, lol.
metric is way better but I use imperial because I live in the US

Idk, I like imperial units.

Water freezes at 32 degrees, boils at 212. One foot is 12 inches, three feet are a yard, 5,280 feet in a mile, 1760 yards in a mile. Absolute zero is -459.67 degrees Fahrenheit. These are just things I know offhand. I can use them just fine.

American units are for squares.
Australian units of measurement are much more interesting, with stufftonne and forgetload as main measures of volume and area.

I use the old Scandinavian way of using metric beard lengths.

thats a dumb question. you should use whatever one you you need at the time. depending where you are.

an intelligent person can use both without a moral dilemma
This.  Plus, why are we deciding for you?

"Should I get a red car or a blue car" forget, I don't know.  Whichever one you like more.

Obviously the green one.

imperial is stupid because if you have 5000000 feet you have to type that exact long number
with metric units for 5000000 meters you can just type 5 megameters
