What on earth kind of dictionary are you using?
Let's have an example scenario. A child is left in a room with a table with a vase on it. You leave the room and come back to find the vase smashed on the floor. Confronted with these facts (the vase was not broken before you left, the vase was broken when you came back, the child is the only moving object in the room), it would be fair to assume the child broke the vase.

Well let's see some synonyms.
Synonyms: presupposition; hypothesis, conjecture, guess, postulate, theory. |
Synonym: a word having the same or nearly the same meaning as another.
Hypothesis: A mere assumption or guess.
Guess: To think, believe, or suppose.
Theory: A particular conception or view of something to be done or of the method of doing it.
So yes, it would mean something as of a guess or an opinion.
