Author Topic: Overpopulation is a rapidly growing threat, how would you fix it?  (Read 7151 times)

Artifical islands; how nobody has thought of doing this just blows my mind.
Seriously, the world's covered in 75% ocean. Just make some really big metal platforms, add everything that makes a city a city (buildings, gardens, etc) and let people move in.
Thing is, building cities on oceans is harder than you might think. You'll face the currents up top, which could possibly sink the city during a bad storm if the protection on it isn't sufficient. You'll also need some strong supports or really damn big chains to anchor it to the seafloor. I think if you put a glass bubble around it you could hold it about 50 meters underwater and it would be safe from the current, though.

Artificial Islands have been made, lol.

Or was it an artificial strip of land along an island?

The issue of overpopulation isn't that there isn't enough space for people to live in.

If you gave every person in the world 2500 square feet of land, they could fit in the state of Montana.

The issue here is that you can't feed all these people and create enough power for them. Not to mention the issue of job competition, disease, clean water, pollution, etc.

Tsunamis

Maybe they could have big turbines that allow them to move so they can get out of the way.

tide changes

Above solution might work.

shark attacks

just so many things could go wrong

Prototypes that would lead to improvisation.

Well more land would result in more greenhouses/power plants/laboratories and that would give people jobs while possibly fixing food, power and diesase problems.
The others I dunno

Honestly I dunno if this would work, I just thought it might help somehow. :s

you're missing the point.  this is about food, not space.

We already have more land.

go look at a map and compare the size of Montana to the world.

I say forget these gas companies and bring back the electric car.
That's what car designers are trying to do.  The problem is, the typical gas engine is much more efficient and powerful than electric motor.  The amount of electricity able to be stored in an electric car is much less than the amount of electricity able to be made from a full tank of gas.  I hope they find a solution soon though.

Nuke china.
Ok we got it, the same joke / stupid idea has been brought up like a hundred times in this thread already.

That would require so much fuel it's not even funny

Above solution might work.

Again, would require a stuffload of fuel.

I was being silly

It sinks and everybody dies.
You can't have improvisation if the improvisers are dead you know.

Well it might, but building an entire city on stable ground is hard enough.

more land = more places to grow stuff

People don't want to try harder with electric cars because of how bad the gas companies would flop.

Electric cars were "recalled" to save the gas companies' asses.

loving cunts.  Let's just mass riot against companies.

Why in the world would you put living people on the prototype?
