Author Topic: I'm starting to understand why I don't like school.  (Read 2780 times)

I feel you bro. I was interested in learning more about computer language and computer hardware in general when I took the elective back in 8th grade. All we did was learn databases in Microsoft Access and type fake data in Excel -_- I am sick of it. Every school I have seen has the worst IT group I know. Every school I have seen has incredibly outdated computer teaching methods and the hardware is incredibly old. The people who are in charge of maintaining the schools machines literally just install plugins and restart your computer when it has a problem that doesn't end up fixing it. Another huge thing I have noticed is schools starting APPLE labs. loving christ. I went with my younger brother who is the same age as you to his High School tour just a few days ago. I was there simply to make sure he was ok since parents were asked to come but my parents were not available. As we went into their Academic center I saw loving old XP machines and a loving iMac room in the back. There must have been about twice the amount of Mac computers than the XP machines and I bet that people in that school always go after the iMacs because of their looks. I literally face palmed myself and my brother said "lol." He's a coolbro :3 Anyways, schools are stuff when it comes to there technology department. It is not until college that you actually get anything. It's a sad truth and its hard for younger people to start. In our town there is a Computer camp for the summer. However (I'm not sure if its because I live in the state of Connecticut) but it is so damn expensive. One week is close to $1000 :/ I have just graduated into the 11th grade and I go to a private school. Which explains why I said I visited the high school. My brother is going to the public school instead. Anyways, my school is at fault still. Our art department uses iMacs running bootcamped Windows 7. What the actual flying forget. They bought 10 iMacs so they could run Windows 7? I don't understand people anymore. But what I am trying to get at is that I really feel as though we need to change our schools technology areas. It's what I believe today's schools are lacking the most.

In high school my teachers would never have to call the IT guy to fix a problem because they knew I knew more than him

Frames is awful for animating let me tell you.

You can make awesome BL decals with it though.

This seems to be a big problem in American Schools.
"No child left behind"

You took this statement too literally.

It's for the mentally challenged people.

Not the gifted.

IT teachers very rarely know anything about computers. A computer's not running properly:
"Oh, just restart it. That big green button on that big metal thing to the left, there. Press it."

The only good computer class in my school is CAD, which is a lot better than the other computer classes they offer, which are just basic computer skills. My CAD teacher actually knows everything about computers and mostly everything about the software, which is AutoCAD. I'm hoping they give the computers in the lab better graphic cards because then we can use 3DSMax.

We're not using frames, we were literally learning what a frame in an animation was.

lol, I just typed that on a DSi

IT in my school doesn't teach me anything I don't already know.

I think the reason schools do this is because more people are acclimated to using Windows than Macs, since only about 10% of people use apples as their primary computer.
But I still agree with you, man. stuff's forgeted up.

SPooK speaks the truth.

I may add that our school uses Windows XP, an operating system which is 11 years out of date.
My school recently upgraded to Windows 7 enterprise.
I do IT at school. It was boring, but taught us how to use spreadsheets properly and all the things and stuff.
Then we had a new teacher and she taught us how to make a website and do basic animations in flash and serif.

we're using flash in IT currently

NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND
NO CHILD LEFT BEHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIND

School isn't going to do anything that will really be challenging to the students, especially in year 8.
Don't expect it to get better, just do what they say and do what you want in your own time.

my school is what gave me anger issues  :cookieMonster:
