Author Topic: Anyone think blockland is getting ruined?  (Read 6471 times)

I had a decent server that was enjoyed by a few people.
Max players I ever hit was 5 :(

I've been working on that idea that was hatched though and I've almost got the V2 ready for it

>nobody joins my server

"Man, this game is getting ruined!"

I don't care how good any of those servers are. I host my own server, and I can never get any visitors lately.

I get a small group of people to join my server whenever I host. I rarely host a server unless I have something i want to show other people out there and if I don't I just fiddle around in single player.

Oh btw, to get more people in your server name it something thats unique, heck addon testing servers get a few more people in them, not to mention posting something in the forums no matter if its a build or some new gamemode people might be eager to check it out.

It is up to the server host to make the server attractive; the reason people join these dedicated servers is because people enjoy them. Dedicated servers add a touch of stability to whatever world you are playing in.

Take, for example, Badspot's Block Party, do you have an issue with that? That's a prime example of a dedicated server. There can be between 0 and 32 players but it keeps growing, it's  enjoyable with very few or lots of players.

If you host just another "freebuild" or "tdm" or anything generic, don't expect people to join unless they are your friends. If you want to host a tdm that people join, make a post for it on the forums, make a nice build for it and layout a good post about it.

If people wanted to play on his server, they would. But they don't. Why? Not because of the other server hosters, but because of the server and its quality. If your server is lacking quality, it will be lacking in players.
It's not lacking in quality.  And it used to not lack in players.  Like I said, I reached 32/32 players.  People to today still say "Your jail escape was awesome"

I am not against Badspot's.  I am just against the ones that are at the top 24/7

The reason that it will be at the top 24/7 is because people enjoy them. If people really think that your server was that good, they would join it.

Personally, I feel that dedicated servers are necessary for a proper community, people tend to make more friends of the "regulars". However, every dedicated server crashes sooner or later, and it's often half a day before the host finds out and puts it back up. There's your time to shine.

The thing people like about dedicated servers is, they can come and go as their schedule suits them, so a host who lives in Australia, for example, can still make a good server available for players in America and Europe.

Every dedicated server I have seen has needed some work. There is one server that I have seen that was capable of true epicness, and that server belonged to Tomtom (aka Gambsy). Glass's server is half-assed and I usually play it because there's nothing better to do. the other TDMs don't have enough players due to the fact that players don't join TDMs that don't have enough players. So the problem is ironically self-causing.

What it takes is getting enough people on initially. After you get the first few semi-regulars, the server will be more populated and others will start heading over. Unfortunately, unless you yourself can procure some method of 24/7-ness, your regulars won't be too regular due to fluctuating schedules.

Me, I got the ideas. I've got about ten server ideas that have never been done before. The problem is, each one is missing one crucial mod feature that it would require to function properly, and nobody will make the damn things for me, so I sit in obscurity on single-player servers doing my own little thing. It sucks, I know how you feel. The most people that have ever been on my server at once was four, and that was cause I was hosting for someone else who had bad internet. But I'm working... working and waiting.

(insert "...Soon." meme picture here)

This.

I hosted for the first time in a while last month, it was a mini-nuke battle on the slopes, dedicated minigame and in the slopes. I got 10 players in about 15 min and was about that for 30min until I shut it down. Not that hard to get players.

Horrible servers get players. This is a prime example.

Wrong, mini-nukes are found enjoyable. What is horrible is letting one person have a mini-nuke and no one else.

Why is it our fault that your server is stuff and can't draw the attention of player's? If you want people to join, make an interesting server that's persistent and create a forum thread about it.

You need a cult following.

Interesting. Provide me more info on this study. I'll just be over here looking at the facts that almost everybody on the forum hates it, and like 50 topics have been failbinned from it.

People hate it? Why did he get 15 people? Now please stop talking for the community you don't know all of.
