Mass shooting at Batman premiere [3 month old & 6 year old dead]

Not sure if people would find it interesting, but I found this on Wikipedia:

Witnesses said that the gunman was dressed as Bane, the film's primary antagonist, and that the shooting was timed to coincide with a shoot-out in the film. Other witnesses said that the shooting coincided with Batman's first appearance on-screen.

He shouldn't. He almost certainly has a mental illness and it's our fault that nobody looked at this guy who was probably a social outcast or had symptoms of depression and told him to get a psychiatric evaluation.

You know, you're actually about as brutal as a murderer for preferring capital punishment over plain old imprisonment because it's more expensive, acts as a pointless act of revenge (just like murder), and doesn't really punish the person anyway because they were mentally ill in the first place.

The only time I would ever prefer capital punishment over imprisonment is in the case of terrorism where executing the responsible would be a huge deterrent to other would-be terrorists. In this case though, in the next few days we're going to see The Joker has a mental illness and he will be locked up in an asylum for psychiatric treatment like he should be.

Blame the school counselors and parents who let his entire childhood go by without seeing he had some kind of mental illness until it was too late and he bought a gun and shot a bunch of people.

In the case this is some kind of terrorism that was deliberately plotted out by Holmes,  I wouldn't oppose execution. There's no evidence for that yet and he still needs a trial.

Too bad execution does absolutely nothing but waste valuable slave labor and someone's life out of petty revenge.

Also assuming a black rapist/murderer wouldn't get a life sentence is crazy.

Also, if you immediately execute everyone who is, "caught in the act of a crime" or proven guilty of any crime, you'll see a bunch of people dead in their cars after being shot in the forehead by a sniper with a radar gun who caught them going 65 in a 60mph zone. Not to mention that you can't un-execute someone when new evidence 10 years later shows they were innocent (which happens sometimes). Plus, execution for any crime? Are you out of your loving mind or are you just saying something completely radical to be funny?

This is why you aren't a congressman/politician and will probably end up a car salesman or a code monkey. Don't vote.

Also, if someone going 65 is shot, don't you think everyone else will slow the hell down?  If a teenager is shot in the head for walking out of a store with gum he stole, do you think people are going to make off with anything more obvious?  

The death rate would like quintuple in the US for the first few years, and to be frank I think there would be a fair amount of chaos, but after criminals got the message, I sincerely think that the crime rate would drop.  Think of Hammurabi's Code.  Think of Queen Elizabeth I's reign!  Your tax dollars are paying to feed prisoners right now, and they don't get rehabilitated by jail.  It makes them more angry. 
Try no to think of it as 'petty revenge,' and more of a 'kill 1,000,000 to warn 311,591,917.' 

They did what the had to and the country was successful.

You do realize plenty of crimes such as speeding on a highway and shoplifting can be committed accidentally? And the punishment does not match the crime in any way shape or form? We already execute people for premeditated murder but people still do it, so your system already is defunct.

Furthermore, what the forget is wrong with you? The system doesn't discriminate based on age?

So if a 6 year old kid put a plastic cup in someone's mailbox because he thought it said Litters instead of Letters, he should be executed for committing a federal crime?
