Is this why my motherloving internet has been going off and back on randomly for the past two months? My speed is still the same and I have Blast. I'd rather they make their monthly bandwidth cap larger.

You probably need an updated modem. I was having problems like this too. It turns out, my modem wasn't rated to handle the speed I was getting.

Go to your modem's status page, most likely 192.168.100.1, and look for the hardware information page. If you see anything that says "DOCSIS 2.0", you need an upgrade to a DOCSIS 3.0.

If you have 2.0, Comcast will supply you with a 3.0 for free.

I don't lease any hardware from Comcast, so I'll have to look around my router/modem settings for it myself. I'm in California, and I've only read they've been doing it in the east united states. I guess that's either where it's available or there isn't any news talking about it happening in the west.

I don't trust Comcast with any leased modems. I contacted them about a DOCSIS 3 modem before because my old one was 2.0 and they said it would support DOCSIS 3 and just left it like that. So I bought my own, better hardware. And I don't need to pay the $7 a month to rent it. Comcast tech sucks, don't trust them.

You still may need a 3.0. I was having problems before this speed increase and the upgrade fixed it.

I had a leased one from Comcast from 2005 that worked great up until a speed increase last year. I would rather just lease one and not have to worry about buying a new one if it forgets up.

Rented their stuff once because I couldn't find a good modem or router that was reasonably priced; It was loving horrible.

Anyways, looks like they only did do in for the east united states. Even if they do end up upgrading their stuff here on the west side, there's likely no reason they'll do it in my neighborhood since there is absolutely no competition here. forget.

lol i pay the 3 dollar a month insurrance on my bill that covers my 2 dvrs and modem. (on top of the rental fee)

i can break them a million times if i want, and its a simple trade in.
if i want a different model, its as simple as walking it into the comcast store, no need to explain why i am doing it or even let them know ahead of time.

its a sweet deal. buying hardware from your isp is for idiots lol
