Author Topic: Progress Tracking Thread - ARES App - Lunar Base - Wired Power Sys Video!  (Read 1301 times)

This here's a thread where I'll be keeping track of my progress on an app for ARES. This is just going to be a nice little lunar base complex.
And, so here's a little log of progress. I'll be updating constantly as I continue building, and eventually this topic will be for the actual app.
PLEASE suggest any changes/additions/etc. here and now so that the app can be ideal when I present it to the clan as an actual app.

July 27~11:41am
Using a terrain build generously posted by Bester Bageler as a basis, began converting the 16x cubescape to ModTer bricks.

It will take a while.

~1:59pm
Conversion is complete, and the map (Slate Orbital by Ace) is chosen.

Actual building of the, y'know, buildings begins here.

~3:31pm
The first structure, the science base, is near completion. Interior and exterior walling has been completed.

The building has an airlock system (which I intend to use in the other buildings). This causes an alarm to go off when the exterior door is opened, and activate cents to keep the air fresh within the building.

This also locks the door to the main lab. The door is automatically shut when the first alarm goes off in case it is in mid-swing. I'll probably make a video of the system later since it's kind of hard to appreciate in images. In addition, there are lights with seperate switches in each of the two rooms.

All that remains now is actual furnishings and sciencey things within the building.

July 28~10:30am
The science building has been completed.

I am thinking of using Logic Bricks to put in a power system that would add to the intricacy of the facility. I will have tunnels running underground throughout the build and a central power station building. It sounds good to me.

~11:31am
Work on the power system is basically done for this building. I'll probably build the power station itself next so this doesn't look so silly. (for now the science building just has a little battery sitting on its wire) All of the events for the science building have been done so that systems all switch on/off depending on the power.

~2:35pm
The wired power system has been completed using logic bricks. A power station was built and tunnels excavated to house them, in addition to the construction of a large generator.

~4:36pm
In an effort to give the interiors a more interesting shape, I rounded out the corners of each building and moved some things around to accommodate this.

I hate how modter terrain makes any brick building look weird, I don't know if it's just me or something.

I'll admit, it feels a little silly just sitting there amidst a big flat nothing, but that'll hopefully be fixed once I've added everything in and tweaked whatever details might be necessary.

bunp, science buildin' get

The interior is ehhhhhh. Needs more shape imo

i love all the stuff inside. specially the way you used that T+T ammo in the pipe line.

define shape? :o
It's all just square. Build in 3d, have ramp protrusions or something. Go crazy! Decorate the ceiling!

Power system's done, I might call it a day now. o3o

I'll try and figure out some ways to make the interiors more interesting. I've already got a couple of idea now, actually.

Exterior is kind of generic and the interior is dull. I find the power system interesting, but I would prefer if it was made using VCE, but I'll give it to you because VCE is some complicated stuff.

Alrighty, made my shot at giving the interior more ~shape~. This'll be my last update for now till Monday.

Any ideas for ways to improve the exterior?
Realistically I could achieve this without the use of any fancy hootenanny like VCE or these logic bricks, just with named bricks and/or relays, but I'm going mostly for the aesthetics. Something about a bunch of wires running through an underground tunnel looks really nice~

I suggest making the exterior look more futuristic. I would have made a building out of compartments, that could be easily dropped onto the moon and hooked up to more compartments to make a building, kind of like how they are building the International Space Station.

I used the magnum ammo like that before.

 :cookieMonster:

Oh, and for the exterior make a curved wall from the ground to the roof,
or a ramp that has a 2 brick high wall cutoff at the bottom.

so i got home
sat down in my comfy chair
thought about my accomplishments for the day
then i realized i never saved

if you need me i'll be in the garage with the car running
