Am I the only one who thinks the olympics is stupid?

I saw a bunch of teenage girls pretty much covered in make up, trying to win the gold medal in that gymnastic portion, many of them crying from the stress before it even was half way over. The faces of the Russian team compared to the faces of the straight faced Americans was pretty heartbreaking.

They knew what they were getting into, I'm sure of it. And if they couldn't handle the pressure, that is partly their fault for not being mentally prepared for this kind of a competition. Half of gymnastics is physical preparation but a lot of it is mental preparation...and they just didn't prepare mentally enough.

the streets are quiet all over the city, and summer tourism is down to a 3rd, even by normal, NON olympic standards.

i love 'em. they're tense and fun, and they've got a great history. still wished they played them naked though- women's volleyball would be much more interesting...

Some sports are a bit boring (Sailing, Equstrians, etc), but some of them are really fun to watch. :D

people train extremely hard to compete in the olympics. these people are doing something great with their lives, what are you doing? the olympics is also a worldwide sport, so how is your opinion better than the millions of people who watch it?

They basically waste their entire lives on something that doesn't help anyone. Make the thing 100% privately funded or shut it down.
