Note: Most of this stuff is copy/pasted from Wikipedia.

Hitman is a stealth game series developed by the Danish company IO Interactive. The series is available on PC as well as several video game consoles, including the Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox, and Xbox 360. The game series has since expanded into a novel, Hitman: Enemy Within written by William C. Dietz, and a Hitman film adaptation which is loosely based on the storyline of the games.

The series revolves around Agent 47 (usually simply referred to as "47" or "Mr. 47"), an assassin-for-hire, whose flawless record places him in high demand among the wealthy and elite. The games feature a mix of orchestral and electronica musical scores, composed by Jesper Kyd. A fifth installment of the series called Hitman: Absolution is in the works and is due out on 20 November 2012. Another Hitman game is to be the debut project at Square Enix's brand new Montreal studio. The new Hitman game is for next-gen platforms, IO Interactive will contribute to the project, with three developers moving to Montreal from Denmark.

Games in the series:
  • Hitman: Codename 47
  • Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
  • Hitman: Contracts
  • Hitman: Blood Money
  • Hitman: Absolution (Coming soon)

Hitman: Codename 47
Hitman: Codename 47 is a stealth game developed by IO Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive. It is the first entry in the Hitman series, followed by Hitman 2: Silent Assassin.

The story centers around Agent 47, a bald test subject branded with a barcode tattooed on the back of his head, who is rigorously trained in methods of murder. Upon escaping from a test facility, 47 is hired by the Agency, a European contract killing organization. His mission takes him to several locations in Asia and Europe to assassinate wealthy and decadent criminals.

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin is a stealth game developed by IO Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive. It was released for the Xbox game console on September 30, 2002 and is the second entry in the Hitman series and the sequel to Hitman: Codename 47. Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 2 versions of the game were released on October 1, 2002, and a GameCube version was later released on June 19, 2003. The game was re-released for Windows through the Steam online distribution service. A commercial success, the game has sold more than 3.7 million copies as of April 23, 2009.

In the game, players assume the role of an assassin known as Agent 47. The game advances as players carry out contract killings by solving puzzles to arrange for stealthy, untraceable assassinations.

Hitman: Contracts
Hitman: Contracts is a stealth game developed by IO Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive. It is the third entry in the Hitman series.

The game features recreations of four levels from Hitman: Codename 47. The storyline intertwines between two missions in its sequel, Hitman: Blood Money. The game is considered to be the darkest and most violent game of the series, due to the overall dark and depressing tone throughout the game's missions. As of April 2009, the game has sold around 2 million copies.

Hitman: Blood Money
Hitman: Blood Money is a stealth video game developed by IO Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive. It is the fourth entry in the Hitman series.

The story follows the life of professional hitman Agent 47, as narrated in cut scenes by a former director of the FBI to a journalist who is interviewing him. The wheelchair-using ex-director recounts how his agency tracked 47 over a two-year period. The game also marks 47's arrival to the United States. The game was a commercial success, selling more than 2.1 million units. It is the last game in the series to feature actor David Bateson as Agent 47 and composer Jesper Kyd. The sequel Hitman: Absolution has been confirmed by IO Interactive with a release date of November 20, 2012.

Hitman: Absolution (Coming soon)
Hitman: Absolution is an upcoming stealth game being developed by IO Interactive and published by Square Enix. It is the fifth entry in the Hitman game series, and will run on IO Interactive's proprietary Glacier 2 game engine. The developers have confirmed that Absolution will be aimed at a wider audience than earlier. It will be easier to play and more accessible, but still retain a very strong, hardcore side as well. It has been set for a 20 November 2012 release.

News Post

Quote from: Hitman Forum
David Bateson, singer, actor and eponymous voice of Agent 47 for the entire Hitman franchise, has been unceremoniously dumped by IO Interactive. Although it had previously been confirmed that amongst the cast reshuffle, it took a member of Hitmanforum to contact Bateson personally, to find out why. His response was, alarmingly, indicative of the studio dropping the actor quite unceremoniously:

‘The absolute truth is: no one from IO Interactive is answering my calls, e-mails or sms. Feeling very let down at the moment but I haven’t heard personally.’

Considering that Bateson’s voice has been one of the key aspects of the character’s persona, the rough, European rumble that picked 47 out as a cool, calm operator, it does raise questions as to whether Absolution is hoping to shift further from its roots than previously expected.
