Then you could do this -

For SMF, you go to Admin -> Posts and topics -> Post settings -> Embed flash into posts and this will work.

There's a reason this isn't enabled.

There's a reason this isn't enabled.
Several reasons.

People posting research everywhere.
People posting mlp in topics not made for it.
People posting pony hate movies in the mlp topic.
People posting so much stuff that the forums becomes slow.

I'd rather have it postable in the OP only with a max of 5 videos in the OP post.

People posting research everywhere. Youtube doesn't have that much research, people are better off linking to actual research sites or posting researchographic imagery, either way, they'd still get banned for posting loveual content
People posting mlp in topics not made for it. People have been good about not posting MLP outside the megatopic, i haven't seen anything outside of it in quite some time
People posting pony hate movies in the mlp topic. As if there hasn't been pictures of pony hate and discussions of pony hate in the topic before, some pitiful videos aren't gonna stop that topic
People posting so much stuff that the forums becomes slow. This is the only thing here that's true, topics on Facepunch with multiple videos on one page tend to lag my web browser, mostly on my laptop though, it happens less on my computer so i can't exactly say for sure how it'd be on an SMF forum engine

Oh, and Drama section would go to stuff.

So just because something could be abused, it shouldn't be enabled? That's stupid. If it really does tempt people to pull stuff like that, they'll just get banned and have their post removed/edited. It'd allow people to use it for useful things where it should be used, and easily rid the forums of the idiots - the ones who abuse it. Everybody wins.

I'm pretty sure they know how to enable it considering the fact that they knew how to disable it. They probably disabled it for a good reason, too- and I'm perfectly fine with not being able to embed videos, if I do say so myself.

i'm not sure how this would lag the forums
wouldn't it be just like images? the forums redirects the person to the file location on the hosting site

He means one page on a topic containing something like 30 videos would lag the browser's load time.
Like how a topic with very large / a lot of images takes a few extra seconds to load. Only the time for videos would be larger.

This

Just no. It would end in a total disaster.

youtube videos don't start loading until you play them

Indeed. But, they still have to send a request to youtube to get the player properties. Too many requests at once would cause browser lag.

Nobody is forcing you to press the "Play" button.
