I always machine gunners as buff guys who wore short sleeved clothing or sleeveless clothing, camo pants, boots, and bandanna/beret/Boonie hat with a a few belts of ammunition over their should. So Rambo ,Animal Mother, Raven come to mind.

Also it couldn't be too hard to model something like this:
