Author Topic: Blockland is becoming more of a realistic FPS engine than a building game (rant)  (Read 9133 times)

I mean look, literally kilometric forgettons of guns and most happen to be real-life-like firearms instead of cartoony boomsticks.
Several vehicles based on actual tanks or made up, specifically for combat.
Lots of DM/TDM/jail escape servers with those guns and vehicles.
And let's not forget the billions of CoD gamemode and gun and BF mechanic threads in suggestions and requests.

Seriously, it's like BL is a foundation for realistic shooters and realistic shooters only.
Whatever weapon pack that only consists of AK47s and M16s gets tons of support and those that don't ultimately die a horrible death and are left to rot.
Tons of CoD imitating servers.
Tons of weaponpacks and vehicles.
Abuse of the poor Afghan DM save.

...I hope you get what I'm pointing at.

Questions frequently asked by rabid CSS fans:

"forget YOU! WE DO WAHT WE WANT!"
Then make those millions of ultra-lambda-realistic AKs for Call of Duty or something like that instead. Or for Counter Strike. Will fit more in there. This is a cartoony internet legos game, the weapons are supposed to at least look like generic laser-shooty gizmos.

"THERE'S NORMAL SERVERS TOO--"
Yeah I can see the 10% good freebuilds/DMs that don't use whatever 1337 quickscope weapon packs the majority uses. Not to forget the nonexistent dms that use the actually good cartoony boomsticks like amade's repeater.

"BUT WE LIKE OUR GUNS, WE WOULD LIKE TO SHOOT GUNS IN BLOCKLAND!"
Then make a separate master server somehow and name it "Blockland 2: Call of Duty DLC". Or make a Blockland mod for Battlefield 3. Or go the extremes and port the v8 army men mod or something.

"I AM ONLY HERE TO YELL AT YOU FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON YOU loving friendRON"
Get banned. Nobody will miss you.

Blockland is a sandbox game by design and features.

Just because its players use it for FPS purposes doesn't make it an FPS game.

There is nothing realistic about floating limbs and jet powered plastic figures.

yes but the part where guns taken almost copied off of cod/bf with litteral hands

i agree with the OP

i kind of agree. every time there's a good build these days, it's always "so what gamemode will it be used for??!?"
i kind of dislike that everything has to be a minigame and that having biulds just for buildings' sake doesn't really exist anymore.

but then people can play it how they like i guess. they should just respect that there are people who don't play the game simply for the shooting and stuff.

Well its the community that is deciding to create, share, and promote use of those files.

If you don't like it, boycott the files and host something else. Leave servers that use such files.

Blaming the game as a whole is pretty ridiculous.

Let alone there is afaik no bleeding or limb damage system.

Call of Duty didn't invent guns.  Just because a video game has it doesn't mean that everyone is basing it off that specific one.

most of these guns fit imo.

^^^^

we need more wacky/cool/creative weapons, like the nyoi-bo and manches chainsaw

Kind of exactly what I almost was going to say.

Blockland isn't becoming some generic FPS game; it's still a building game. It's just that most people make their server into a "generic FPS engine" - but that isn't what defines the game.

i agree with the op.

if i want to go play a dm game, i'll go and play quake 3 or something, not blockland.

just curious: what is a kilometric forgetton?
1000 meter ton?

Lol'd

The point of Blockland is that people can choose to do what they want. I never join DM servers, I feel spoiled for choice with the range of non-DM servers; freebuilds, murder mystery, falling platforms, cityrpg, unique RP, spaceship builds, water parks, and so on.

Nobody is forcing you to join. You have plenty of other places to go and its not your place to decide what others host anyway.

we need tdm's like zombie or payload, not cod "inspired" servers, to fill the server list instead

Oh I dunno, maybe you could, like, look at the RTB weapon addon list to see what I'm talking about?
Plus jets can be easily removed via playertype.
Let alone there is afaik no bleeding or limb damage system.
in v20 or earlier versions there was an addon for bleeding/gibs

Yes, correct: they're actually basing the guns off real life images or various game bullet throwers.
Blockland isn't becoming some generic FPS game; it's still a building game.
I see this statement and raise you the sheer mind-blowing amount of FPS based addons and suggestions.

Much, much more than that.

so you're saying it's perfectly fine for CoD replica servers to outweigh the rest by a landslide and we're not allowed to complain?
If you host anything other than a tdm you won't get any players at all. this needs to be taken into account.

this, be innovative at least
