Backstabs do 3x the max health, so a heavy would get a 900 damage backstab, at least i  think thats how it goes.

No, 200% for a no-crit backstab and 600% for a critical backstab. Which would mean a backstab on a Overheal heavy would equal to 2700 damage.

i was pretty sure that logs.tf compensated for those and didnt count damage that went over max health. maybe not.

I thought backstabs did 6x current target hp

I remember seeing full hp heavies get backstabbed and the spy's hud reports 1800 damage

its some item bug. you click on melee or secondary, then view entire backpack (im sure you know what to do from here)
