Pop - How often do you drink it?

I always wondered why we call it "pop"?
Maybe is it the feeling our taste buds get when they haven't had soda in a while?
Like a "Pop!" type feeling?

i have a huge peeve for people who say pop because i had a friend when i was young who would say pop all the time
but he would say POP and spit in my face every time he said it
it got annoying

Anyway, what makes soda so special you only drink it on "special occasions"? I don't get it. I mean, it makes sense to only drink champagne on special occasions because it costs a stuffload per bottle, but soda? You can pick up a huge pack of them at the store for less than $10.
