Author Topic: Warning - Disable your browser's Java - Malicious exploit hits web.  (Read 3466 times)

tl;dr:

A browser based exploit for Java has been released on the web. It allows the distributor to use your browser's Java 1.7 runtime to download and execute anything it wants. For now, the only way to protect yourself is to disable the Java plugin within your browser. If you are using Java 1.6, you do not need to worry.

In Firefox: Press Firefox button -> Add-ons, go to Plugins and click the "Disable" button next to anything named "Java".

In Chrome: Type in: "chrome://plugins/" into the address bar (no speech marks). Scroll down to Java and click disable.

In Opera: Type in: "about:config" into the address bar. In the preferences editor, expand Java and uncheck "Enabled".

Don't use the browser version.

I believe that is 6. I doubt the 6 at the beginning has anything to do with it.

In Opera the only thing I could find related to Java was JavaScript, so I disabled that.

Do I need to uninstall Java all together? Or just disable it from internet browser?

Completely unrelated. Adding Opera to OP.

Just disable it. You can still use it for offline Java apps.

Thanks.

It appears that Java is not on my list of things.

Apparently I have an early version of Java due to DAMN AUTO-UPDATES. Also exploit/virus-wise, my parents scan our computer regularly, and Norton's a safe anti-virus which contains the power to auto-scan.
Luck.

The loving people who did this need to be hanged if found. I'm tired of this.
