Author Topic: Alpaka's New Project: Aztec TDM: Add-On Request Thread  (Read 8274 times)

Hello everyone. I've recently started work on a new server of mine. The server is planned to be quite a large-scale TDM featuring an island with lots of traps and obstacles, terrain, and also an Aztec temple.

This is my first really big project and I plan on making it fun as well as historically accurate. What do I mean by 'historically accurate'? Well I'm planning on using weapons that the Aztecs and conquistadors actually used during the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire. Which is why I need your guy's help. I'm looking for experienced modelers and scripters to help create some of these weapons.

The add-ons will range from weapons to hat items, so modelers/scripters with experience in those fields are what we're really looking for. There are also some existing add-ons that are needed, although they are broken and require fixing, which is another thing that will be requested here. Note: I may add more add-ons to the list as time goes on, hopefully not too many though!

Alright, let's begin.

Request #1: HatMod+ Item: Morion Helmet
Job Type: Modeler
Progress: *Complete*!

A morion is a type of open helmet used during the 16th and early 17th centuries, usually having a flat brim and a crest from front to back:

I don't know whether or not HatMod+ hats need scripting, I don't think so, though. If the model is done I should be able to figure out how to package it myself.

Many thanks to Demian for modeling, scripting, and packaging this add-on.

Request #2: Weapon: Atlatl/Tlacochtli
Job Type: Modeler and Scripter

The Aztec dart thrower was a weapon used to hurl small darts called "tlacochtli" with greater force and from greater range than they could be thrown by hand. Murals at Teotihuacan show warriors using this effective weapon and it is characteristic of the Mesoamerican cultures of central Mexico. The atlatl could also throw spears as its name implies "spear thrower".

As you can see, the atlatl itself is actually used like a bow is to an arrow. I understand that the animations for the atlatl could be very, very hard to do. In the case that it cannot be done, what is called a 'tlacochtli' will suffice. A tlacochtli is basically a small, feathered dart, much like an arrow, that is what was commonly used as ammo for the atlatl.

As I was saying, an atlatl and tlacochtli firing animation could be very, very hard to do. In this case a throwable tlacochtli would do just fine. The tlacochtli/atlatl should kill in two hits, except within a smaller radius. For example, take the default spear. The default spear has been known to be rather overpowered. It is rather large, and kills on hit, whilst also creating a kind of explosion around the player. The tlacochtli should be similar to the default spear (except for the fact that it takes two hits to kill), except smaller, so that it does not create such a large explosion, and should only kill on direct contact with the player.

Now for some pictures of the tlacochtli missile:

This is one of the more needed add-ons.

Request #3: Add-On Fix: Skull Prop
Job Type: Scripter

The Skull Prop by Burple is a broken add-on. It shows up as 'un-packaged' on the RTB client's add-ons list. I don't know exactly what's wrong with it, perhaps it's because it's named 'Prop_Skull' when it should be named 'Brick_Skull' or something like that. I don't know if this went along with some prop add-on or something, but if someone could possibly fix this add-on it would be very useful to people more than just me, I'm sure.

Request #4: Add-On Fix: Macuahuitl
Job Type: Scripter
Progess: *Complete*!

"Hungry-wood", essentially a wooden sword with sharp obsidian blades embedded into its sides. This was the standard armament of the elite cadres. Also known in Spanish by the Taino word "macana". A blow from such a weapon was reputedly capable of decapitating a horse.

The Macuahuitl by Choneis is the add-on needed the most for this server. Once again, I'm not entirely sure what the problem is with this add-on, it does not show up as 'un-packaged' in the RTB client's add-ons list like the Skull Prop.

My guesses are that it may have the same problem as the Pie add-on which is that whenever a server was started/joined it would disable itself. However, this add-on was recently fixed by someone (sorry for no link, I can't find it) and what I'm hoping is that if the Pie add-on can be fixed, then so too can the macuahuitl.

NOTE:This is the most-needed add-on for this project.

Many thanks to Lamebro1 for fixing this add-on.

And that's everything.

If you have further questions, feel free to post them here or PM them to me. Also by all means either post here or PM me with progress if you do choose to work on one of the above requests.

Thanks!

Interesting Shtuff

Thanks.

Looks awesome, Demian! :D

Is it done yet?

If so, could I have some more pictures and maybe the model?* (*Via PM please.)

Morion.. Mordor.. Close enough. I enjoy giving nonsensical names to my images. I can make the hat functional myself. I'll PM you the add-on when I'm done with it.

Alright, cool, also, could you not release it? I kind of want it private for my server, at least, for now, if that's alright with you?

Okay, I'm not particularly fond of the model myself anyway nor do I see that many uses for it.

Well I like it and I've certainly got a use for it!

Thanks Demian. :D

Alright, we have a bit of a problem, Demian.

Rusty and Munk's Hatmod+ no longer works, it was CRC banned.

I don't know what we're going to do...

Do you think we could package it as an item somehow?

I have no idea how you would, but maybe you do?

I just export the helmet, copypaste script, change 3 variables and done.

Awesome, I can't wait to see the finished result. :-)

There is the Roman helmet mod where you type something and the helmet goes on, same as the Army helmet

I am aware of that, although I want it as an actual item so that it can be held in the inventory so that I can make it so members of the conquistador team will get it automatically when they spawn.
