metropolice are humans

combine are hybrids

i have no idea what a pure combine is called / looks like
The Combine soldiers you fight are actually humans with surgical adjustments (read: mutilation) made. Supposedly, the floating gas bag Advisors are the real Combine.

go google the overwiki
everything there is canon noob!! >:C

floating gas bag Advisors are the real Combine.
how in the world did they manage to take over earth

It's a video game!
Games don't require realism to be fun.

Would it happen to be this thing?

I would assume they did by using previous enslaved races.

They should follow the rules of their own universe, though.

Im pretty sure the Combine have been invading areas, and the alien people things fled to Xen from the invading combine, then HL1, then they took over Earth so Hl2.
Idk I just read a wiki page a week ago and Im pretty sure thats what it said.

HL3 better start on a train.

synths
I completely forgot about those. Didn't the synth drones make an appearance in HL1? Surely they have synth infantry as well.

HL3 better start on a train.

It probably will start on a train that's making it's way towards the Borealis. Just a silent depressing train ride after the events of Episode 2.

Think about it, HL2 and it's episodes are extremely bland and easy. The plot is mainly "shoot aliens beccuz they came". At-least HL1 had an understandable plot, it was fast paced and action full.

Nice way of dumbing things down.

Or, exploring a ship in the middle of an arctic tundra nothingness. Booooooriinnggg. I can wait for that.

Again with the dumbing down.

What I want to see in HL3 is the seven hour war. You know, the invasion of combine on Earth? You could do some amazing story lines with that, imagine the action, think of the possibilities!

So you want it to be a prequel instead of picking up off of the cliffhanger Episode 2 left us with? Fantastic.

With your great inclusion of detail, a game focusing on the Seven Hour War would just be "kill this combine, and kill that one." I can wait for that too.

But it doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Think about it, the combined (HEH PUN) forces of the entire planet could probably wipe out literally every other life form on this planet, and yet one person, untrained in military combat, can take on the Combine forces and survive? It doesn't make any sense. How does Gordon Freeman, just some dude with a PhD in Theoretical Physics, manage to do what the entire planet's military could not? It's like a man with a sponge going up against the entire US Army and winning. In fact considering the Combine are only slightly more durable than a normal human being, and that their vehicles don't seem to take much more of a beating than regular human vehicles I don't see any reason for the Earth to have lost the war unless there were like five hundred billion Combine. Then again there probably were.

"The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world."

Seriously, G-Man puppets Gordon so much and changes so many things - but not too much, still making Gordon have to do a lot of work - which makes it possible for him to do these things.

Well I don't actually know anything about the 7 hour war other than 'combines invaded'. The point was that something and a great storyline COULD be built off of it.

And game play that could preferably last longer than an hour.

Half Life 1 had a lot of action, while HL2 didn't. It's episodes had more action that it's self. HL2 could've been more diverse seeing as there's a massive alien empire ruling Earth.

How did the Combine take over Earth in only seven hours?
what you guys dont know is that, that massive portal you saw in Ep2, happened all over Earth, not just in a single spot. The Combine was stuffting out military forces like you can't believe out of these portals. Not just that, we were also trying to eradicate the vortigaunts and the other Xen creatures at the time, so the combine were pretty unexpected since they're not just a bunch of animals and have brains.

The combine APC is like a tank, only it moves 6 times as fast. The striders are destructive monsters that can take a beating. Those flying synth things that shoot boolats, can forget up infantry pretty easily. Their kind of projectile they use isn't a bullet, it's an energy burst, dark energy, it will burn right through a lot of our material, so building a tnak out of the hardest material we have may do a minor punch against the combine, but it wont be long until it's blown up.

The G-Man intervenes a lot on Gordon's journey, making Gordon's job somewhat easier. Also, the reason Gordon can survive because the HEV suit uses efficient sustained energy on his suit, when you pick up batteries that recharges it, but it's also made out of some pretty tough elements explaining why he can be shot a lot without any juice in his suit.

Half-Life 2 can be fully explained, just go to the wiki, I used to go there all the time during school.

I wish the conscripts were in HL2, or Shephard with his powervest, gasmask, and kevlar helmet.
