loving why didn't you mention that earlier

and what kind of backup are we calling in? other mercenaries or what?
So far the mercenaries that are recruited are the player submitted characters. Only two are pending which would be the bartender guy and a hitman.

By backup I mean any solar empire ships available in the sector.

Call some ships and let's skedaddle.

well first look at what ships are available before calling them in. if its like one patrol ship then we should just leave, but if its enough to distract the fleet and those patrol ships then we can call them in and go cripple those last few mining facilities.

redgaijin should make a character just so he can be made the canon first officer

Do we know where the enemy reinforcements are coming?
Do we know where our's are coming?

If we know either we should head to/ from that direction.

how did you do your thesis for that masters degree

in additon to what redgaijin said, check the enemy fleet stats and how many of them are there, and where.

and is it possible to send indetectable shuttles to attack the station on foot? the only issue I see here is getting out in time without them attacking your space vessel, and if we're detectable.

What's the point of sending people into a heavily armed station on foot?

yeah, the stations are probably well prepared for a ground assault. the shuttles would probably be shot down before they even landed.

Note that I asked if we could send one undetected. Barging in there obviously wouldn't work at all; what would be best is a squad of three to five bust in, sneak around, set timed/remotely detonated  explosives, and then get the forget out of there.

Needless to say if we're doing it tippy is coming along.

Should it come down to going to that rock a possible infiltration team would probably look likeL
Tippy because she has the know how of explosives, Squishy knows how to sneak around, Big Red can cut open doors and deal with heavy infantry(assuming he can quietly walk down a hallway). You can take Gordon as a fifth man because he could probably open electronic doors without the need for Big Read to cut them open and make a loud noise. Alternatively you can take Bronson or Westbrook for protection. Also the captain as the sixth man.

Now from the looks of it they are focused on us and the mission was to disrupt mining operations. So maybe it is a good time to leave.  Also calling the Empire's navy could make us look incompetent and we risk getting some pay deducted.
