i think it would be cool to earn the title of "longest game to sit at the top of greenlight without being greenlit".

I feel like there's a perfect idiom or saying for this, but I have no idea what it is.

"goddamn why is this happening"?

One thing thats hard to get over about Blockland compared to other games that got Greenlit is that Blockland gets a lot of attention! Positive or negative a lot of attention comes our way.

Blockland
-Fully Functional
-Fairly decently sized forums full of add-ons, media, help, general discussions and suggestions and requests
-Over 100 Discussions
-Over 3,400 Comments
-Nearly (if not more, Im not sure) 50,000 keys already sold
-Not yet featured on Yogscast
-Not Greenlit

BROFORCE
-Still in development (only local co-op as of now)
-Over 50 Discussions
-Over 50 Comments
-Featured on Yogscast
-Greenlit

Its quite interesting to see that a very successful original sandbox brickbuilding supercreative game doesnt get greenlit but a platforming game that is still in development get greenlit.

Maybe Yogscast will make all the difference?

I'm going to throw down some hard truths right now.

The Blockland community is one of the biggest problems with the game. Almost all of you desire that BL gets on steam, but I guarantee that NONE of you want the users that a steam release will bring with it. The drama forum is the PERFECT example as to why none of you are ready for BL on steam. Yes, every game has drama. Yes, every game has its problem users. NO OTHER VIDEO GAME FORUM ACTIVELY DOCUMENTS AND THEN PUBLICIZES IT. It doesn't help that badspot has a habit of posting email correspondences with people that could easily be written off as nutjobs and therefore ignored. And it sure as stuff doesn't help that we unwittingly glorify and feed the egos of the same handicaps holding this game back from further development! This entire Jazz drama  and badspots clumsy handling of the situation have in no way benefitted the image of Blockland as a community OR a game. Furthermore, Badspot's policy of allowing people to come back to the forum for the bargain price of 20$ is outrageous. A permanent ban on the forum should be just that. Permanent. I understand that people can just go out and buy more keys and keep playing the game. That's fine. But at least then there isn't a permanent record of their douchebaggery and flat-out illegal activities for everyone on the internet to see.

Returning to the users that a steam release will bring;

Do you think that a release on steam would INCREASE the average IQ of a BL user? It will only increase the influx of young, impressionable children into this forum, akin to releasing puppies in a cage of starving lions. You guys would tear them a new starfish and think nothing of it, because that's how you have attuned your social standards on this site.

Blockland as a game is excellent. It's a clear candidate for release on steam, no doubt. The gameplay is great, the default features have a lot of replay value, and as a sandbox people will be able to get a lot of value for what they spend. The issue is YOU people. If valve looks at the community of a game before they greenlight it (spoilers, they do), we've got a lot of waiting to do.

The fear of more people of a specific age group is ridiculous. This will happen no matter how users find the game and no matter how the game is popularized. The Drama board is debatable. If a user does something wrong enough to get significant amounts of negative attention from it, they can become rejected by a small portion of the community that goes on the forums, and their friends that have been made aware of their 'bad reputation'. But if the forums become more populated, these threads will be more common and less noticeable. Cases that we've seen in the past will become common and less surprising.

Only 5% of blockland users actually have a forum account, and if we get greenlit that number will increase. Why? More non-children will start playing the game. Is this a good thing? forget yes. It means more addons, more contributions, more originality, all that good stuff. However it'll also bring the bad stuff we already have along with it. However just focusing on that is a stupid and childish thing to do.

i agree that the community will be flooded with a lot more people, but i don't agree that all of these people will be young and stupid enough to put themselves in a position where the forum will want to harass them. in fact i'd be willing to bet that the average age group that owns steam and plays steam games is not lower than 11 or 12 years old.

however that doesn't mean i'm denying that there will be some people like that. yes, it means we'll get the occasional moron more frequently; but i think that at least 50% of the people that regularly bash and flame users who break a forum rule right from the start will become a little more lenient when the entire forum goes into an uproar because blockland just got greenlit. when it does, everyone will hear about it, and i believe that some people will suddenly feel that it's their job to direct newcomers without all the hatred usually involved.

maybe i'm putting too much belief in people here but i think it will be better than you're stating it there.

I think that drama should have some sorta screening process where a thread can only be posted if approved by a moderator or admin

Drama should not be a board.

Drama should not be a board.
Yes

Im trying to think about what boards should be able to make it through the screening process but I cant really think of any good ones.

Besides hacking, which should be report directly to Badspot.

Heck with that, how about a Blockland Government. With a court system that judges every blocklandian before they are banned. All jokes aside, maybe it will be the time for some more moderators or something on this forum.

Drama has good purpose though. It reports spammers, hackers, exploiters, and starfishs to server admins so they can ban them before it happens again.

I do think that there should be rules saying what can be accepted as drama though. More specific rules if I may add.

Thats the only thing I could think of really is that it warns other admins about certain players.

That doesn't really outweigh the absurd amounts of hostility and fighting that the section breeds.
