Author Topic: Urban Exploration Megathread  (Read 8760 times)

This isn't a parkour thread. We have one, but this is not it.

The two go together well so it's a good suggestion.

They don't really go that well together, the purpose of both these activities are different. Urban exploration is for the appreciation of neglected or otherwise unseen parts of manmade structures. Parkour is a gymnastic hobby. Although some gymnastic skill would be helpful in urbex, you wouldn't want to go leaping and flipping through an old, potentially unstable or otherwise dangerous location. The locations that are typically investigated in urbex are often structurally weak, or otherwise unstable. Not to mention that you never know what you'll find around the next corner. Lastly, running around the place won't give you much of a chance to appreciate the location.

I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that you don't do urbex or parkour.

you and being banned go together so well. it's a good suggestion.

Actually parkour is all about overcoming obstacles and doing so in the fastest way possible.

Urbex is just a fancy way of saying exploring urban areas, and as you might guess parkour is by far most often done in urban environments.

My original point is parkour is ideal in abandoned places because you won't get yourself in trouble with the owners / keepers and not filled with people.

Also common sense will keep you safe in doing parkour anywhere.

cute

I believe the biggest place was nicknamed "The Alamo" and it was located in a town called "Darktown". The area consisted of about 7 buildings. They were all overgrown as the place has been deserted for well over 50 years.

Though either this Friday or next Friday I am planning on getting some people to go to an abandoned amusement park called Williams Grove Park. Its about 1 1/2 hours away but I think its worth the drive. That will be the biggest place I've explored.
Damn, I wish I could come. I enjoy UE, usually when me and my cousin go UEing I'm usually the first one to go in, mostly to check for other Urbexers so we don't get owned up the starfish.

cute

You could just as easily get in trouble with owners/keepers/police/whoever just by walking around there, why would you want to be leaping around the place?

No common sense would keep flooring or a beam or something from falling out from under you. Urbex is about urban areas, but most commonly is about neglected urban areas that have fallen into disrepair.

By all means, you can go do parkour in an abandoned factory or some stuff, but don't promote crossing these two activities to other people. The safety risk doubles when you're stunting and sprinting to get somewhere quickly, and to cross that with urbex is just nothing something that you want to risk. Like I said, do whatever you want to do, but don't suggest that other people do it. One or the other is exhilarating enough, stuff.

Actually tezuni is all about being stupid and getting banned in the fastest way possible.

tezuni is just a fancy way of saying im a huge noob, and as you might guess getting banned is by far most often done by tezuni.

my original point is tezuni is ideal when banned because he wont get himself into trouble with the forum owners/keepers and wont annoy people.

also common sense will keep tezuni banned in posting anywhere.

Burned bitch.

Also, with common sense you would stay safe with urbexing as well.

Why are you telling me what to say lol?  Anyways I said they go together well and its a lot of fun if you know what you're doing.  And yeah if you're on a solid cement platform im pretty sure you aren't going to fall under it.  Rotten wood floor planks is another story.  Common sense does eliminate risk.  I think they can go together well.  You don't.  Ok.  I never recommended anyone else do it.

I just put a team together, and we met up yesterday. A few guys from my school, and a couple guys I found on reddit. One of 'em is gonna scout out an area near SeaTac airport that he said looks promising, and we're gonna go exploring in a couple weeks. Super excited!
Sounds cool! Any idea what the place is that he is scouting? Be sure to take some pictures as well.

I know the feeling of being the first one in. I'm always first in a building to scout for anything dangerous, I always have my friend Jake close behind backing me up. Then eventually the others wander in haha.

I can see what you're saying. I actually think in some instances parkour can prove very useful. One of the main things that comes to mind is using the skills to get up to higher places easier. Though you would need to make sure whatever structure you lanuching off of/landing on is strong enough to support you. As long as you make sure its safe parkour could prove useful. Too bad I have no experience with parkour and would probably break something if I tried lol.

Once me and my cousin were scouting out a building and we both took different doors, I went in first wielding a pair of scissors in case of others (if they was hostile by any chance). If the floor looks unsafe I am also the first one in.
I typically just run on in and scout the place alone then call him in.

I didn't really get many pictures, but we explored this old two story house, we couldn't go upstairs, or even throughout the whole house, due to weak floors, but it was nice to explore a little.

Nice! I wish I had a nice camera, I've always been into taking pictures and could probably take some amazing ones. I don't have much money now for a camera though.

thanks man, and yeah it'd be cool if you did, but yeah money can be a real restraint.
