Author Topic: How Official UI Edits Could Work.  (Read 2543 times)

Firstly, there would be a new section under Files:

This is where people would upload their UI edits.

Then you have the way to actually make these UI edits functional. You must package it into a .zip folder, and put it in add-ons like other add-ons. You would then package as so:
ui_coolui
  myuiedit.png
  otheruiedit.png
  thumbmy.png
  thumbother.png
  ui.txt
(others if required)

You can put random images in there, and ui.txt will tell the game what they are.
ui.txt:
Code: [Select]
name=Cool Cursor
image=myuiedit.png
thumbnail=thumbmy.png
location=\base\client\ui\CUR_3darrow.png

name=Cool Blockland Logo
image=otheruiedit.png
thumbnail=thumbother.png
location=\base\client\ui\Title.png
Using this, you can edit any image in the game if you want, even if it's part of an add-on.

There would be another tab in the options menu with a scroll box with thumbnails of various UI edits you have added. There would be sub-tabs depending on what UI edits you have, and more would be added if a game discovers you have a UI edit for more stuff.

ui edit / quality

pick one

Think.
You are not FORCED to download them.
so whats the problem?

what's the point in having an extra board that's just filled with absolute garbage when they can just be posted in general discussion?

Okay, I know you think all UI edits are crappy, but don't just think about yourself. What if other people want UI edits? What if you wanted to make quality UI edits for the people that want them in a non-hacky way?

UI editing is not a functional part of the game. Badspot has made efforts to STOP this, because it interferes with updates.

I thought Badspot said once that he would add support for ui edits.

Well, then the auto updater happend...

What about if Badspot integrated the GUI Replacer inside default Blockland and there was a section for it (Read the topic I linked and you'll see what I mean.) :

Highly unlikely, but.

This.

this could be made by a mod
and it wouldn't be hacky like what McTwist did
it would be smart and it would actually edit the GUI Profiles.
but im 2 lazy to make GUI

i'm not sure if there's any good way to have custom UI

options:
-GUI Replacer : has some issues from my experiences, things don't seem to work quite as intended sometimes
-Read-only Files : may work, but there seems to be a consensus among a good bit of the community that it's bad (mostly because of Badspot's apparent disapproval)
-Custom UI Mod : hacky, can be slow, has some issues like the playGUI sometimes not replacing correctly, inefficient, incompatible with some really great mods (TBMI (nexus is apparently planning on fixing this), Advanced Events GUI), "makes creating a GUI 16x longer than before" - Nexus

pick your poison

i already made this
make a better one, mine sucks

official support would be the only 'good' way for this to work, and that certainly isn't happening

There will be an ingame list that you can choose from.

And this will NOT be hacky
