Author Topic: what kind of specs does a computer for a dedicated blockland server need?  (Read 3580 times)

From what you guys said, It sounds like my laptop would be great for a dedicated server :)

Wouldn't recommend a laptop for dedicated hosting.

I was just noting it...

I can host a server with at least 100,000 bricks and at least 28 players on just 512 mb of RAM.

The biggest concern for you will be the processor speed. I can host up to 28 players on a single core 2.8 ghz processor, so anything above 1.6 ghz should work fine.

Hopefully this gives you a good reference.
How do you guys manage so much CPU?

I've had 128 players not use an entire 2.3GHz core

The computer only has 1 core, so all of the load is on that single core. Yours has something like 4 cores, so the load is distributed.
Also it was a CPU intensive gamemode.

You obviously don't know enough to know that 32-bit programs only use onecore.

Why not?

Stresses the system, wares out the hard drive, overheats, and you can't close the screen or it will sleep.

Uh, yeah, they're arranged differently. So what?

Laptops have cheaper parts. They wear out and break more easily.

I don't understand how "stresses the system, wares out the hard drive, overheats, and you can't close the screen or it will sleep" are related to this post.

That happens when you leave a laptop on 24/7 hosting a server

Contrary to your current belief, it does not overheat, wear out the hard drive, or stress the system. If you're attempting to run a server on a horrible laptop, you may stress the system.
There's a specific option to change what the laptop does when the lid closes.
