Since the kitten is a new being in the household, your cat feels threatened and thus attacks it.
If you introduced the cats to eachother in a different environment, they SHOULD be more warm to eachother, and after a week of socialization in the new environment, bring them back to the original environment. Together.

After this, they SHOULD no longer fight eachother.

That is sorta what I was thinking. Katie always claims everything as her own, so when Tesla came into the house she started getting riled up.
