Author Topic: Do violent video games lead to behavior problems?  (Read 1305 times)

It really depends on the kid and thats it, no right or wrong

I've always played violent video games and while they have probably desensitized me to death a bit, I am the farthest thing from violent.

this

I think that videogames just act as a conduit for children who already have behavior problems. They think "If I can shoot people in this game, and I feel good, why can't I do it in real life?". It all depends on your comprehension of the game and how you take it in.

I was playing M rated games since I was five, and I turned out just fine! :cookieMonster:

Little kids have trouble differentiating between what is and isn't real or not real or what is socially acceptable. I would say there should be an age limit on some games, but there already is and the neglectful parents of the kids just let them play it anyways. There should be some kindof competency test before you play a game.
Your arguement is bullstuff because I knew the difference between real and fake when I was six.

Some kids do, but there are some who do not. Kids are more likely to believe in realistic fiction, because at that age most aren't condition to argue and criticize, just accept and listen.

You are starting to sound like those German politicians who ordered video games to be heavily censored.

It only influences the stupid children.

i think parents use it as an excuse.

IMO it's not true. I think it's just a scapegoat. According to this website, 83% of teenagers play video games. As violent games are pretty popular, we can assume most of them are playing games like Modern Warfare or Battlefield 3. I think it's really unlikely that so many teenagers would all have behavioral problems because they play these games. Teenagers do have a rep for being starfishs, but it's definitely not over 1% of them.

It just depends on the person, not the video game.

If you don't know any better, then yes.

Uh, not really
I've read several articles that have done experiments that show that violent videogames can help with stress and can also improve memory and other mental benefits

I just got my permit and whenever i drive i feel like i'm in GTA4. Is this bad?
