Author Topic: Torque is not a piece of crap  (Read 1992 times)

No, I blew up at altiris, the guy who has made at least 3 topics about how blockland should change engines and dropped multiple references to it in other threads (such as this one), DESPITE the fact that we've told him time and time again that it's a bad idea.

It's funny how you act like you contain massive ammounts of knowledge on the Torque Engine but in reality you don't. How is 'using any other engine for blockland unnecessary' if it could, in reality, make a game like this 10x better?

Should he have made the switch earlier? Yes. Now? No. Though my statement still stands.

there are so many things that other engines have that aren't necessary for blockland. so what! their features would make the game 10x more awesome, necessary or not.

No, it's called piecing things together and using common sense. It was either kompressor or Badspot that explained why it would be a bad idea, at any point of development. I'm positive they made a couple other posts explaining it.

Regardless, you don't need to have "massive amounts of knowledge on the Torque Engine" to know Blockland doesn't need to be ported to another engine. It wouldn't be worth the time, money and bug fixes.

I completely agree with this. We might as well see if Badspot will port the game to the Source Engine, maybe we could get some cloth physics!

Anything with "torque" in it's name is bound to be awesome.

amirite yall?

I obviously don't know massive amounts of the torque engine, and that's not the point I was trying to push. I regard any other engine as "unnecessary" because blockland would not be the same with a different engine. When you say that it could make the game 10x better, that is a statement of opinion and not fact. The truth is that blockland would have turned out differently, and there's absolutely no guarantee that I would still like the game (insight: this is literally my favorite game of all time in its current state, I personally would not change anything about it aside from a few minor details)

Arguably. I'm not aware of what other similar gaming engines existed in 2004, but any time or expense lost to a different engine (including loss from not being as familiar as with torque) would not allow for the current level of development that exists today

imagine how awesome it could be. there could be client-server synced brick physics, and we could launch bricks and catch them in giant nets.

Seems you didn't fully read my post. It would be worth the time and money if he would of made the switch earlier in this game's development. With all of the work he has already put into it, mine as well stay where he's at.

What point specifically? The only reasonable time I can think of is before it was majorly overhauled and went retail. Either way, I doubt he thought about switching to a different engine since at the time there was barely a point considering it was just a basic lego building game.

This is what I'm saying as well

I asked two questions, nowhere am I leading up on how Blockland should change its engine. I asked what WOULD have been a better option at the time when Badspot was first developing Blockland (v0002) (if you understand English, WOULD is past tense and does not mean NOW). The second question I asked was why Badspot picked that engine of all others if everyone here is saying that it is bad, meaning that there was a particular reason Badspot chose Torque over other engines, I don't know what it was, maybe its could at handling a lot of bricks, or maybe Badspot was familiar with it already. That was what I was trying to find out. Your idiotic brain decided that if I say anything with the words "Blockland" and "engine" I am referring to my topic made several months ago asking if it would be possible to put Blockland on Torque 3D and if there are good benefits/advantages.

If you haven't noticed yet, everything I have asked/said is to inform myself.

He picked TGE because he worked for garagegames and that's what he makes basically every game in.

Stop getting upset, you built a poor reputation for yourself concerning engines and blockland, there's no wonder me (and lugnut) thought that you were spewing more bullstuff. You were highly ambiguous in your post, and it was a pretty obvious choice to assume that you were being negative about torque because you've done it several times in the past.

I have never been negative about Torque, show me a post where that I said that it sucks. I was not ambiguous with my first topic, my first topic follows the first topics of this thread. You probably only read my comment, like I said, your brain decided to imagine things.

Your first post on this topic was not ambiguous, but you have done it multiple times in the past and when you said "of all engines" it sounds very negative.

Im really just sad you continue thinking I want the engine to get upgraded, I made another post about Torque3D recently, I said how it was now Open Source. As you can see in that post I said nothing about upgrading, http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=209798.0
