Author Topic: Hey, I downloaded this! (An add-on suggestion)  (Read 4995 times)

You know how if you dont have certain mods, you downloadthem when you enter a server. Say someone has a mod you can find anymore and no one will give you? You downloaded what you needed from the server, why cant you use what you got in your own servers?

My proposal: An optional "Download full mod" for the add-ons on a server that you dont have.

Before you whine "Well what if they dont want their mods used in other servers!!?" The host would have to MANUALLY turn this on. Thus, only if someone asks or the host just feels generous they could get everything they need to use it as an add-on they downloaded themselves.

A possible response: "Its called the add-ons section, use it"

My answer: Sure, I'll go through begging people to re-upload mods that have broken links. And if the link isn't on the forums and wereever I found it is broken, well, I guess tought luck then? NO

One of the reasons I want this is because even if I download the mod, something is changed in it and I have to wait awhile to RE-DOWNLOAD it anyways. It's happened to me before with the stuntplane, seriously.

Not a good idea, What if it's not a public add-on?

public add on?

Yeah, some people don't release their mods (looks at ephi).

Sounds like a good idea but I don't think its possible. That would involved downloading CS. files

I'm pretty sure you only download textures and models as the server-side scripts require.

"Its called the add-ons section, use it"

Downloading other files from the server to client can be easy if the script is installed on both people's computers. I'd make a downloader but it'd be useless - you'd have to go download that first, defeating its own point.

I think the server admin/host should decide this. That way, mods can still  be private.

TorqueScript can cause a lot of damage with a simple script. Unlike Gmod which has this feature, Lua is quite safe.

...I don't think its possible. That would involved downloading CS. files...

Rather simple to do...would just require adding some functions in both servers/clients. But it would get so abused...

That would be better.

Precisely, Mr_Grinch.

Read whole post please, thank you. I already thought of that and put such anti-abuse function ideas in the post. If you notice the bold parts....

also, possible answer:

"When is anyone going to make a mod on a separate website that isn't like RTB?"

My answer: Probably when mods like RTB come out for retail
