Force the the thing shut!

: What is it?

: It's a multidimensional rift in the fabric of space and time. Using a highly charged electrical field generated by the magnetic copper rotary combined with the, albeit primitive, power of a steam engine I was able to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of power needed to use the ancient runes that make it work.

: Perhaps I'm speaking out of my derrière here, Nik, but can't we just close it?

: I wish it were that simple. While you'd be correct to assume that it is, in fact, a doorway of sorts, the power required to create it on this end is just too much. We can't shut it down here else all of the transistors, a new invention of mine, inside will fail and overload the already taxed system. It'd create an energy blast the size of the state alone.

: Well, what's wrong with it now?

: If left as it currently is, the portal will continue to eat away at the space time around itself and, given enough time, begin to devour the known universe.

: On... this end... what about the other one?

: I was afraid you'd make that observation. Theoretically, yes, closing the gateway from the other side could be a safe way of shutting it off. But! Wait! I'm not sure exactly how to do that. I'd need to see the portal on the other side.

: Well, you can't go in there.

: And neither are either of you. Just... give me time...
Give Nik more time or decide
who should go in, Nathan or Sam?
