Author Topic: Which way do you pronounce "the"?  (Read 2036 times)

Western Pennslyvania

oh i see

ohioans have a boring "accent", if one at all

I would give you thee answer but I'm not sure which way thuh vote is going to be cast.

Most of the time thee before a vowel sound and thuh before a consonant sound, but occasionally I change it up just because.

Thuh
Sometimes I get silly and say "thee"

It's 'thuh' if it precedes a word beginning with a consonant sound, and 'thee' if it precedes a word beginning with a vowel sound.

thuh cat
thee apple

thuh basketball
thee igloo

There's a grammar rule associated with it.

This is what I was taught, so this is how I pronounce it.

I have never heard of that rule, but I actually do that.
