Suggestion for underground compound, if you do make one
Make it with kinda modular 8x-cube-height passageways. If you do that correctly, you'll have a floor plate, 6 brick high walls, and then a ceiling plate. With this, you can easily build into cube terrain using a minimal amount of space, and may I say with considerable style.
