Believing in invisible sky spirits is stupid period. Although it doesn't necessarily make a person unpleasant. Almost all religious people believe because the notion was drilled into their head as a child, not because they were dumb enough to be converted by religious arguments.

Personally I think what is wrong with america is the amount of people who accept things without questioning them.

Extremism in general needs to be eliminated. Common sense dictates that because humans are so corrupt we couldn't possibly be the greatest thing in creation.

This too.

"God exists, but I don't want to question my belief because my church says I'll be eternally tortured."

1. You think we have to compare to something. We don't, and being corrupt does not bring your god into the equation.
2. We weren't created. There is no necessary order made by will, but by natural selection.

My point is that you used extremism (Westboro, kool kids klub) as your examples of religion with issues. I am an atheist, as I assume you are, but I don't believe religion itself holds back progress so much. If everyone kept their religion private and stopped being extremist, it would be much easier to make progress.

that dosnt make sense, your views on stopping "extremism"

then who's job is it to determine at what level any of a billion things can be to extreme?
once again we are stuck in a never ending disagreement with everyone else on earth.

"extremism" isnt some disease you are making it sound like. the term can be used on anyone, by anyone for even the slightest differences.

the word itself is a term for stupid people to swallow, because its easier to describe a multitude of complex issues all in 1 word. when they would otherwise be to stupid to understand the full version.

I might point out that I do not have a god either but I don't have problems with those who do. Coulda been more clear on that.

That's one of the problems, extreme is a relative term. There is a "common sense" frame of reference, but as we can see, some people lack common sense.

Like bisjac said, extremism is relative. It's better if moronic beliefs disappeared entirely.

One can't simply expel supernatural belief

non voting, non tax paying, non involved in the world children; discussing politics lol.

I personally vote and pay both state and federal income tax. However, people who are too young to do any of those things will eventually have to. It's stupid to say "Okay kids ignore all government decisions until you're old enough to vote, then it will suddenly matter." People should know and care about what's happening in the world they inhabit even if by law they can't change it.

And besides, kids CAN change it... just not directly.

This so much. Despite saying I have no god, I do believe that humans simply cannot be the greatest things in all of existence.

so much this.

Religion isn't just bad because of its sleazy political moves. It hinders human progress. Thousands and thousands of years ago, a cave man had no idea where things came from, so invented the "invisible sky man" to explain it.

In perspective:
600,000 years ago. The Stone Age. Cavemen think the invisible sky spirit made everything.

2012. Modern day. Creationists claim the invisible sky spirit made everything.

It's absolutely shameful. And what's behind it? Christianity. Organized religion at its finest. Holding back human progress and spawning hatred and intolerance. Both the kool kids klub and Westboro Baptist Church operate on its fundamentals.

If there is one thing that must disappear in order to fix what's wrong with this world, it's religion.
Oh look, someone bashing people for beliefs. Why am I not surprised.
