Author Topic: Where have all the Blocklanders gone?  (Read 3032 times)

Maybe it's not that, but rather the people who do have the ideas lack the motivation, time or skill, or perhaps they're keeping their projects away from the public (wishful thinking).
This i guess.

They woke up one day and said to themselves "What am I doing playing a lego game. What am I doing with my life."

i miss alot of those guys :c

Forums was definitely at it's apex at like mid 2008 - 2009

Some Blocklanders don't even play the game anymore, they just post on here.

In my opinion I've been seeing blockland pretty dull, let's say since v19. And even I don't know why I see it that way. It's just odd, in earlier versions, sometimes there were 700 players online.
I could say the same.

I'm beginning to go into this state, but occasionally I play the game to see if there's any hope.

What does this have to do with the topic?

People just don't have the imagination anymore. Nowadays it's just Family RPs or some kind of TDM. Every time someone hosts a freebuild, the average number of players it gets is probably around 9.

So what i'm getting at is We need more creative servers. Something that no one would ever think of. But it needs to get attention.

not even TDM sums it up well; knife TDM is better.

we're lacking a good set of proper, fun DM/TDM's, zombie survivals/campaigns, and building servers. Freebuilding has for a while lost its popularity.

the basic root of the problem is people want to have fun, but most don't want to spend 10 hours on a build to find nobody wants to play on it/work on it/admire it.
plus, even spending that much time doesn't guarantee a good build since most of the players suck at building. Not all do, but most cannot.

Well we're losing the creative minds of Blockland that were here when the game first began. Yea we still have some of the "veterans" playing, but there's only a few now.

Well I'm building something a little original. Not really something you would see people make.

We used to have up to a couple thousand players. But then the trolls, the BL_IDist (the whole concept bugs me out) douche bags, and non-original servers probably ran some of them away. Then there's the "banned" option...

People have been talking about new ideas as the basis for keeping people on Blockland, but it really isn't.  The Island TDM Dogfight has been used countless times, and yet Heed still gets roughly 20 people on average on his server at one time.  I don't think it's originality, thus imagination, that's the issue, I think it's a general degradation of the Blockland society that was inevitable.

Think about it like this.  At the very beginning of the game, when it all was brand new, there were a few people who played the rather archaic game that was just building.  These people were ages 10-16.  The older people grew up and stopped playing at that point, but the younger still played, and learned.  At this point, Blockland got better and more comprehensive.  People became hooked on it, and more people, of around the same age as those same people, began playing.  The older people then began making addons and building great builds, doing coding and stuff, and so made all of our addons and good servers for us.  This is when a group of young players began playing, and the fad slowly grew in their age group.  This continued to spread, and we got more noobies.  Our old, addon making, good server hosting people were still pumping out addons and hosting good servers, so no one needed to step up and be addon makers.  Then, these old people began leaving, because they grew up.  So, we were left with a few good servers and only a couple addon makers.  The noobies, who are now old, never got into making addons or good servers, because they were used to playing only.  The newest newbie gen came in and are too young to do any of that well.  With V21's premier, the old newbies began leaving because they were used to maps and interiors.  The few old newbies left standing are now trying to make Blockland better with more addons and good servers.  This cycle will continue on forever.
