I've watched a few eps of a let's play and story wise it seems very poor.

I'm gonna have to agree on this. There doesn't seem to be a reasonable motivation.

I feel like this game could get an HD remake by some fans whereas the animations, voice acting, scripting, etc. isn't total stuff.
