Author Topic: Blockland Forum's Turkey Bowl 2012 - TF2 Tournament  (Read 11189 times)

What's this?

Hello all. As you have probably guessed, it is now officially Nov. 1st (EST) which means it's time for this months holiday festivities and pastimes!

And no, not actually football.

Are you a fan of Valve's Team Fortress 2? Do you and a group of friends or forum members have what it takes to compete against other players? Do you know 8 other people willing to form a team with you for the chance of glory?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then perhaps you'd be interested in our first annual Turkey Bowl. A TF2 double elimination tournament with the chance of real world prizes!*

*Prize will most likely be a real cup trophy with your user name engraved on it. This is, after all, only internet glory.

How do I join?

There are a maximum limit of twelve teams and minimum of six.

To join you must post that you want to be a team captain. In order to be a team captain you must already have at least two other members on your team (if not the full nine). If you wish to play but do not know anyone else to play with, find a team captain who is short on members and join their roster.

Come up with a team name.

Your team will only be added to the official list when you have 8 members and yourself, each of which may play as one and only one class type (meaning you must have exactly one of each class type per team). This is also known as Highlander mode.

When is all of this happening?

The schedule is thus:

Thursday Nov. 1st to Thursday Nov. 8th (1 week) - Teambuilding. Use this time to construct a nine man team to join the tournament. On Nov. 8th a minimum of six and maximum of twelve teams will be added to the brackets. That will be the last day to sign up for this, you have a week. Go.

Monday Nov. 12th to Sunday Nov. 18th (1 week) - The initial games. This will be a week of live broadcasted games (livestreamed with your host and commentators, myself and NicktheSushi, aka TheDoktar) set to your schedule. They will be no earlier than 3'o'clock PM and last no later than EST to 10'o'clock EST (the weekend, of course, will be much more flexible). Let us know when you and your team are best able to compete. You will get one rain check if you're unable to attend your set match time. TF2 games do move rather quickly, so it is possible we could get all of these games done over a weekend. However, we'd like to use the whole week if possible to make it less chaotic. The games will work as such: Best two out of three games. The first game mode and map will be randomized. The winner of the first round gets choice on second map and second game mode. If they lose that round, the other team has a the same choices for the tie breaker

Thursday Nov. 22nd (Thanksgiving) - Turkey Bowl! The last two remaining teams (after given three days to either rest or practice or what-have-you) will compete in the final best 3 out of 5 games for the final glory of being named the Turkey Bowl Champs and you and your team will receive a prize each.

This sounds like fun. Though I don't have a group of 9 friends that play TF2. Unless of course someones willing to let me into their group. But theres also the chance I'd forget unless someones willing to remind me of it.

i would love to do this, but i would have to play late on a weekend and a californian server, cus otherwise i get 300-400ms ping and it's unplayable. still pretty bad at 200 m/s but whatever.

I can gather a team tho, if needed

Oh my, this sounds like fun! I just need somebody to put me into a team and I'm good.
I main scout.
My steam profile

This sounds fun
I think I'll just be picked up by a random team

For clarification:

Those of you who don't have a team can get together and form your own team. You only need two other members besides yourself to be considered a forming team.

Hopefully by this time Thursday we will have enough teams, but we can shrink the minimum team amount if need be, though it will be a much shorter competition.

If this is only with forum members, you're definitely going to want to consider playing the 6v6 format or only have four teams. The Games board is infamous for its events that end up having numerous people not be able to show up because they're not old enough to have full control of their schedules yet (everyone's been that age at some point).

It does sound fun though and I'd be up for carrying being part of a team :cookieMonster:

I'm in, I normally am a medic, but I'll also be engi if I have to.

Go ahead and put me in: http://steamcommunity.com/id/hankyje

I'm willing to join any team as any class.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

Like I said, things will be subject to change as per player participation.

If you're on a team that can't have a player that can be on but at midnight at night, perhaps you should pick another one that has a more flexible time schedule.

This also should probably be limited to players in the US unless you're absolutely positive you can make these times.

I can play scout, I used to play for bobsevensevens team and used to do some highlander
Steam is in profile

I feel like it might be more beneficial for there to be a pool of drop-ins, where people are assigned teams after sign-ups are done. Obviously, the 5% of people that actually care about their team can be together, but I'm pretty sure to the majority it won't matter much

I can play soldier, I do play on a competitive team.
