I tend to have a really hard time identifying any given subgenre.

Helloween and firewind are good power metal bands

Imminent break of thread rule #2.

I like acdc.

lol Keep that stuff rock band out of the metal thread.

It was hard for me too at first, it just takes some time to get used to the genre as a whole (aka listening to it a lot) and getting some information about what distinguishes genres

i've listened to memphis may fire and before their eyes. little bit of alestrom

no idea what genres they belong in

MMF is pretty much metalcore/hardcore, the two are so similar even I don't know the difference (I think hardcore might be a little more punk influenced). Before their eyes also sounds metalcore. Alestorm is definitely pirate power metal.

I think this is more hardcore, catchiest chorus ever

For Death/Black Metal you could add Impending Doom, Job for a Cowboy, and Whitechapel

What about Amon Amarth?  They sound like death metal but they have viking themes.  Power Metal/Death Metal?

Thank you for making this thread.  You are an inspiration to us all ;~;

Alestorm would be power metal I think and Memphis May Fire would be Death or Metalcore... I think

They would probably be more death metal, just with viking lyrics, not necessarily speed or power metal

A lot of people identify Amon Amarth as "Viking Metal" which is surprisingly an actual genre of itself (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_metal), though they disagree and just call themselves Death Metal artists who sing about vikings.

As for death metal bands that arent listed, a few I enjoy are
- Dark Tranquillity
- At the gates
- In Flames
- Kalmah
- Insomnium
- The agonist

and thats all thats in my itunes folder :I

EDIT:
Amon Amarths lead singer has a loving amazing beard
