Author Topic: Jagex buys Aces of Spades  (Read 3385 times)

mounted machine gun looks pretty cool, and the game looks a lot better than it is now.
I just hope the rest stays the same. The new weapons and visual is fine.

Honestly:
Jagex evolved a text-based game into a graphical one, pushing their medium a step further (Runescape was originally a MUD - TMYK)
Jagex practically loving pioneered web games (actually Runescape is still pretty unique in that it's a web-based game not based around waiting for stuff)
Their fees were never that steep honestly get over it, yes they locked a lot of stuff away but the modern industry is worse - if they were doing something with a retail product odds are there wouldn't be a free component at all
They're also working on a HTML5 client for Runescape, pushing for new tech adoption that will benefit everyone
Also apparently the new combat system is available to free players and the entire loving game is different from last time I was bored enough to look at it. They're certainly not neglecting free players

Runescape might not be a particularly great game but it's a pretty big piece of gaming culture and history at this point, and Jagex themselves as a company are pretty loving cool. I can't honestly see them taking a lot of creative control over the game, so really, nothing to worry about here.
Jagex was an amazing company, key word was. It was amazing until it got that forgettwat investors group backing it, they are the ones making the stuff decisions. Jagex was making pretty cool moves with Runescape up until they began going the way of wow, what with raids and stuff. At least one of the Garrows brothers is still in charge.

idk about you, but Runescape is still a very great game in the aspect of how much loving money it makes.

good for jagex for buying it, they're great at making money, and can use it to make the game slightly better

you need to know the difference between good at making games and good at making money, as they are not the same thing. Runescape has gone to stuff in the past few years due to the investor group backing it forcing them to make more and more money, causing stuff like ste SoF, the loyalty shop, and that general store thing. An example of a good at making games company would be valve, their work on Portal is ingenuitive and fun, a good example of a good at making money company is Activision, their creation of the samey boring CoD games makes us realize why we like colors other than brown and white.

EDIT
I have 0.70 currently, will i still beable to play?

im well aware of that
and jagex is good at making money

and i dont think runescape has 'gone to stuff' in the past few years, i just think the general public isn't fond of its slow point and click playstyle. we're all into these fast paced shooters and stuff now, which always give constant action. runescape has pretty much only received minor gameplay updates and lots of graphical ones. its still the same game i know and reminisce about since i started played 7 years ago

this is true

i really do despise point and click games, i prefer arcade-style fast-paced action

it's gone to stuff because of the sheer amount of bullstuff "buy dis an u get dis 200 SPINS CUL OUTFIT YEY!" as opposed to actual, creative content.

runescape isn't the only game that does that, and this kind of monetary thing isn't exclusive to Jagex. in any case, runescape has been doing it for years, along with many other games.

That's why runescape went to stuff. Even though most games do do this, it's like stuffting on a perfectly good shirt and saying "well, all the other shirts have stuff on them, and this one hasn't had stuff on it since before."

There's a reason the only real MMO i've ever paid fore was runescape.
