Author Topic: Cheating in an Exam.  (Read 4528 times)

It really is, 90k a year is far more than you will need to live a good life (though I can understand that most of the people in here that have been told that getting As will lead to them making 500k a year, which makes me sad) and they aren't much of a minority, I have seen this happen with so many people I know.
You see it happening to many people you know because 90k a year isn't that high to set your sights. Electrical Engineers make 90k straight out of college, and there's actually jobs available in that field.

My mum used to be the principle of a school that was meant to keep kids off the streets, my bros and sister went there too and I became friends with a lot of the people there, now, the people in this thread are claiming that cheating is basically loving yourself over so that you will never be sucessful, yet the people from this school that were all, drug dealers, hookers, actual delinquents (not the kind that talk in class, the kind that are in knife fights at school weakly, attack the teachers and disappear for months at a time) and muggers.
If you have to cheat to pass, you're not learning the content. If you don't know the content, you probably can't perform high-level jobs.

However I kept in contact and still hang out with about 7 of these guys weekly and they are all in their early 20s and making more than a lot of you A students probably will.
It depends on the field they go into..

There are a lot of jobs that don't make much money, and they aren't just filled with people that did bad at school, so many people who think they are set because they got good grades end up forgeted over in stuffty jobs.
It depends on the job and their qualifications. If you passed highschool, nobody cares what grades you got in your classes besides colleges. If you went to college, you're overqualified for most stuffty jobs and companies are required to turn you down.

Also one of the guys from that school (he is about 26ish now, he was one of the elder ones) is making millions and has spent the last 6 years traveling the world with gypsies and exploring africa and stuff, now he is a minority.
Yup. Making millions puts him in approximately the top 0.001% of American socioeconomic status. He is a very, very small minority.

There is a lot of "depends" in that post, what field and job they are in isn't what I'm talking about, what I'm saying is these people who never even graduated are doing incredibly well, and the "cheat to pass" comment I can agree on to an extent, if you only pass because you cheated and if you hadn't then you would have only got, say 30% then yes you wont be as good at remembering that knowledge, however you will learn on the job anyway.

I said "depends" twice in that post.

Regardless, the reason people want A's in highschool is to attend a good college, and it's fairly irrefutable that college improves wage and job availability. Sure, you can argue people can make more without a degree, but on average people with a degree make more than people without. Whether the cost of college is worth it or not is another topic of debate, though.

How about instead of giving a bunch of hypothetical examples, you show us a real success story?

What was your friend's GPA:
What field did he go into:
What is his annual income (after taxes):

It really is, 90k a year is far more than you will need to live a good life
That's subjective. I need to put 99.9% pure gold leaf on my toast for breakfast, or I will kill myself.

You are all taught that you will only succeed if you are good in school, which is so far from the truth that it's sad.
Statistically speaking, graduating from college with a degree almost always increases the amount of lifetime income a person receives.

Therefore, to even get into college you need to do well in High School.

I'm inclined to believe that you're relying on anecdotal evidence (testimonies from a few of your friends) rather than facts.

No-one should remember knowledge, they should KNOW it.

Also most people who don't graduate only do well because they have a family member who is in a position to get them an apprenticeship or job. It's all about who you know

You're both handicapped. That's a meme entitled "the 10 guy." It's representative of the average stoner after smoking a bushel of marijuana and is unable to comprehend basic anything. Fawkes' statement made absolutely no sense and sounded as if it came from a stoned guy, so he posted a pic of the 10 guy.

exactly. and then the teacher asks you to think more and you're like "i don't know' then they pick someone else and all is well in whimsyland.
I meant outside class. e.g. The teacher tells you about some news that relate very well to what you recently worked with.
"picking someone else" wouldn't make much sense in that situation. It feels like you guys are very disconnected with your teachers.

The person telling the teacher is sticking their nose in the cheater's business.
Perhaps you don't appreciate learning things today, and would rather cheat, but as you mature you'll understand how important it really is. Hopefully.

In the states most teachers spread the students out, the cheating is mostly done by people cooperating to tell each other answers or by using phones.
I wouldn't be surprised if cheating in school is a fully fledged business in USA.

It wasn't a statement it was, an extremely bad now i look at it, attempt at sarcasm.

Oh. Well Sev and I both apparently have autism, because we both missed that.
