Indie games.

Some may know alot, and others may be thinking "What the forget is this topic".

Allow me to explain.

Independent video games (commonly referred to as indie games) are video games created by individuals or small teams without video game publisher financial support. Indie games often focus on innovation and rely on digital distribution. Indie gaming has seen a rise in the last few years, primarily due to new online distribution methods and development tools.

Some indie games have become very successful financially, such as Braid, World of Goo, and Minecraft.

These games can be for any system that you want them to be for. PSVita? Yep. (Homebrew) Xbox? Sure. Nintendo 64? Why would you.. Never mind.

Anyways, here are a few examples.

Minecraft

Minecraft is a sandbox building game made by Mojang. The player is set in a randomly generated (Or flat) world where they gather resources and try to survive. There are monsters at night and in some of the updates around 1.8 Beta, an added hunger option. The game can be found at 'minecraft.net'.

World of Goo

World of Goo is a puzzle game made by 2D Boy in which you have to use little balls of goo to reach each objective in each level. As the game goes on, the puzzles get harder. Its herd to explain this because I haven't played this game in a year or so, so ill just lead you to their site. worldofgoo.com

Super Crate Box

This is actually the latest indie game i've played. Its portable too, so you can take it anywhere.

Anyways, Super Crate Box is an indie game designed by Vlambeer, in which you try to collect as many crates as possible without dieing (rather it be by touching an enemy, or falling in the pit you see above this)
and inside each crate, there is a weapon. Along the way, you can unlock difficulties, weapons, stages, and characters. This is imo the most addicting game in existance.

Braid

I don't know this game that well, so just read this.

So, this is a megathread about indie games. Reccomend and discuss.

UPDATE TO OP

So, I've been getting requests on some I should put in the topic, so here they are.

"Quackventure the game was created by a single developer and a musician in about 5 months. Selling for only 99¢ USD, Quackventure is the first game ever released by this young, high-school freshman. Quackventure has a playtime of about 30 minutes but may take longer depending on player skill level. While still containing guns, Quackventure has minimal violence and is therefore great for young audiences. Older kids and adults have also found the game quite fun as well! Whether you decide to try Quackventure or not, we thank you for checking out our game!"

Main Developers words.

"Vertex is a pixelated action-type platformer with exploration aspects, including expansive levels and numerous secrets. Throughout the game, the player controls two unique characters who can be switched between at any time. The game features an engaging storyline, several diverse levels, numerous boss battles, and a decently challenging difficulty curve."

"The year is 2288. The city is protected by an organization called "The Peacekeepers League" and everything is swell except for that it's under attack! By a robot army lead by professor Darnacus Damnation!! Or is it... ?

100 years after the events of Noitu Love 1 the new star of the Peacekeepers is Xoda Rap, and what she has to endure is a sudden resurrection of the Darn armies, but adding to that the city is locally turning to places of the past! What could be causing this?

Using a mouse reticule as a quick-dash-to-enemies and mouse gestures for special moves, Xoda will take on anything that stands in her way in the name of peace! The game shares little in pacing and action to Noitu Love 1. It is more of a continuation on that universe, so expect much more mindless action!"

and finally,

"The Iconoclasts is about Robin, a mechanic, in a world where her hobbies are considered illegal. Find out why as you traverse the world with the friends you meet, while coming across big battles and puzzles.

The goal of the game is to create a very fluent and exciting action adventure, with enemies that all require finesse and treasures that help build your character for playing again and again. And the game of course has and will have involved bosses. The 2011 version of the alpha ends by some soldiers in the desert that want you to help them.

This game is not abandoned. I released the first alpha version when I was losing some motivation on it and have since decided to come back to it, and I'm giving my best. That version is already quite inferior to what I have now, and you can check out the 2012 alpha for more up-to-date quality, and help me out by telling me if you have problems with that one! Keep in mind, the newer alpha is a bit shorter."
